Rhythm

• REPETITION
Simplest way to develop rhythm in an arrangement
Accompl1shed by repeating the Jeadmg color, strongest
line, the dominant form or texture
• The simplest form of repetition 1s the regular placement
of the same element in a linear path - a border

Rhythm
• PROGRESSION
Gradual change by increasmg or decreasmg
one or more quallties Such as size color to
texture of the matenal usedf or space
between obJects.
- Progression develops movement ma certain

- Using obJects of increasing size
- Increase the space between flowers at the
eclgPs and decreasrng at the center
Emphasis

• Emphasis 1s the method used to draw attentron ton I r

of the design by making ,t the focaf pornt or the mam ,d
There are common techniques that are used to add
emphasis m a design
- Use contrasting elements, (big small, thick, thin
negative, pos,t,ve)
- Use color for the most important element
- Reverse an element orr! of the bcickgroundl

Unity
II
Unity is the completeness and harmony of a design Unity
1s achieved when all the elements belong together
Several methods of organization are used to produce unity
m the design.
- Grouping
- Using a gnd (sub.d1v1s1on of space)
- Repetition - means repeating certain elements
throughout the entire design Using repet1t1on can pull
the design together (usmg a theme or squares then
usmg different sizes and shapes of squares and
rectangles) Example usmg a repeated background on
a PowerPoint presentation

Contrast

· Contrast in art and design

occurs when two re/atea
elements are different The
greater the d1fference the
greater the contrast
Contrast adds vanety to the
total design and creates
un,ty It 1s what draws the
viewer's eye into the
painting and helps to guide
the viewer around the art

Movement

• When the elements

are put together to
have the 1//us,on of
movement and action.
It invites the eye to go
from one area to the
next Mobiles, video,
film, and d1g1tal 3-D
1llustrat10n have
actual movement.
Focar Point

There should be only a single focal point 111 ,1

design
• arrangements with more than one create
restless movement of the eye.
• Unity in the nrrangement Is destroyed
Focal Pomt

Place the darkest color or the brightest color
there
• Place strongly contrastrng co lors or textures at
this point
• Place an unusually shaped obJect/forrn there
