Backup Errors
1. Backup Exec Service starting – Check Backup exec service stooped / restarted
or server rebooted.
2. Canceled by service shutdown - Check Backup exec service stooped / restarted
or server rebooted.
3. The media is write protected - check the media SET for Overwrite protection.
4. The directory is invalid - Check for directory / files is available
at given path, it has failed for mailbox then check the user is enable in the
AD and if user is enabled in the AD then check his mailbox has connected in
system manager.
5. File / directory could not accessed - check the file or directory is
available at given path and it has sufficient rights.
6. The pre/post command has timed out – Check the Pre/Post file is available at
given path and if it is available then ask client to check the same.
7. An error occurred retrieving System State files – Check the VSS writers
status on server (stable/ failed). Also check VSS providers may conflict. Or
take Ntbackup job and if it also failed assign task to L2_Tech.
9. The semaphore timeout period has expired – Check the AOFO setting, change of
AOFO setting may resolve the issue, Reconfiguration of AOFO may resolve the
issue or exclude the AOFO cache file in Antivirus.
10. Hardware error or Read / write errors - Check the Backup device is
Online, also Check for Hard Read /write errors on media used for the backup.
If any Hard write errors occurred on the media, then ask client to replace
the media.Also ask client to clean the tape drive before next backup job.
11. The backup storage device has failed. - Check the Backup device is
Online. Take inventory of tape drive, also check Event ID: 7,9,11,15 in
eventviewer.
12. The software evaluation period has expired - This is basically license
issue for backup exec. Ask client to purchase backup exec license.
13. Access to a device not authorized with this edition of Backup Exec –
This is basically license issue for backup exec. Confirm which resource it is
unable to backup and license installed for the same.
15. The backup job canceled because it has exceeded the configured run time
– Check the backup job configured for automatically cancellation and time set
to cancel the backup job.
16. Unable to attach to one of the drives – check the provided resource or
drive is available/ reachable and check resource credential test should be
successful.
17. Physical Volume Library Media not found – confirm the media has
inserted for the backup job or backup job failed as media not inserted.
18. /O Device Error - the above mentioned job that has been failed due to
an I/O Device Errors. There might be significant Read/Write errors on the
concerned Device (BNCHMARK 1) and Media. In almost all cases, these messages
are being posted due to hardware problems with either the controller or, more
likely, a device that is attached to the controller in question. The
hardware problems can be associated with poor cabling, incorrect termination
or transfer rate settings, lazy or slow device responses to relinquish the
SCSI bus, a faulty device, or, in very rare cases, a poorly written device
driver.\
