MATHS WORKSHEET I : 2023-24

CLASS: XII
CHAPTER : PROBABILITY

MCQS
Q1 Events A and B are independent if
(a) P(A∩B) =P(A/B) P(B)
(b) P(A∩B) =P(B/A) P(A)
(c) P(A∩B) =P(A)+P(B)
(d) P(A∩B) =P(A)P(B)
Q2 Two events A and B will be independent, if:
(a) A and B are mutually exclusive
(b) P(A) = P(B)
(c) P (𝐴̅ 𝐵
̅ ) = [1 -P(A)] [1- P(B)]
(d) P(A) + P(B) = 1
Q3 A bag contains 5 red and 3 blue balls. If 3 balls are drawn at random
without replacement, the probability of getting exactly one red ball is
45
(a)
196
135
(b)
392
15
(c)
56
15
(d)
29

Q4 The probability that A speaks the truth is 4/5 and that of B speaking
the truth is 3/4. The probability that they contradict each other in
stating the same fact is
(a) 7/20
(b) 1/ 10
(c) 3 /20
(d) 4/5
Q5 A flashlight has 8 batteries out of which 3 are dead. If two batteries are
selected without replacement and tested, the probability that both are
dead is
33 9 1 3
(a) (b) (c) (d)
56 64 14 28
Note For Q No 6 to 10 use separate sheet to solve and attach with
worksheet.
Q6 Probability of solving specific problem independently by A and B are
1/2 and 1/3 respectively. If both try to solve the problem independently,
find the probability that (i) the problem is solved (ii) exactly one of them
solves the problem.
Q7 A man is known to speak the truth 3 out of 5 times. He throws a pair of
different coins and reports that he got a pair of heads. Find the
probability that a pair of heads occurs.
OR
There are three coins. One is a two headed coin (having head on both
faces), another is a biased coin that comes up heads 75% of the time
and third is an unbiased coin. One of the three coins is chosen at random
and tossed, it shows heads, what is the probability that it was the two
headed coin ?
Q8 Bag I contain 3 red and 4 black balls and Bag II contains 4 red and 5
black balls. One ball is transferred from Bag I to Bag II and then a ball
is drawn from Bag II. The ball so drawn is found to be red in colour. Find
the probability that the transferred ball is black.

Q9 There are two coins. One of them is a biased coin such that
P (head) : P (tail) is 1 : 3 and the other coin is a fair coin. A coin is
selected at random and tossed once. If the coin showed head, then find
the probability that it is a biased coin.
Q 10 The probability distribution of a random variable X is given below :

X 1 2 3
P(X) 𝑘 𝑘 𝑘
2 3 6

(i) Find the value of k. (ii) Find P(1 X < 3). (iii) Find E(X), the mean of X
Q11 The Venn diagram below represents the probabilities of three different
types of Yoga, A, B and C performed by the people of a society. Further,
it is given that probability of a member performing type C Yoga is 0·44.
On the basis of the above information, answer the following questions:
(i) Find the value of x.
(ii) Find the value of y.
(iii) (a) Find P(C/B).
OR
(b) Find the probability that a randomly selected person of the
society does Yoga of type A or B but not C.
