1 Introduction
The NEC VR10 VR4 Traditional Microwave Radio is a Multi service Radio System which Digicel will use
mainly as a backhaul to carry Ethernet Links to Mobile sites. This document is the Commissioning guide to
configure and functioning correctly before it is put into service in the Digicel Network.

1.1 Log into Radios


This will confirm comms works to the new radios. Find the IP address for the radios from the
NM Plan or spreadsheet.

 Open the Internet Explorer browser window and enter the https://IP address for the radio at one
end of the new link in the Address window and click enter.
 Default IP address is 172.17.254.253
 Log in with User Name: Admin, and use one of the
default password if not changed by personnel on site (12345678)

Open a second Internet Explorer browser window or browser tab and enter the IP address for the radio at
the other end of the new link to log into the second radio.

The Current Status View (Front Panel View) of the IDU should appear, go to Detail Menu to navigate,
view or change settings (as on a below picture) To view Active Alarms, Event Log, etc. use a “Refresh” button
and navigate through the menu panel under the Front Panel View.

Expand appropriate area in the tree on left to access required settings.

1.2 Configure Auto-Logout


Due to some limitation for Admin users (max 10) Auto-logout recommended to enable during the first
login. If the button greyed out, it’s Disabled.

NOTE: for older SW version number of Admin’s sessions limited to Max 5.


However, if needed we can set the number of user upto 10.

1.3 Configure Date and Time


Navigate to Date / Time Setting under “Network Management Setting”, then click on Modify to change
time and date.

2 Confirm Network Management and Time Settings


 Navigate to Network Management Setting->Port/VLAN Setting and confirm all settings are as per the section called
Network Management in NEC Provisioning and Commissioning Guide (NMS Port to Access). This will ensure
comms is directed to the appropriate ports.

 Make sure that NMS, NE1, Modem cards are selected in the Bridge01, Management VLAN usage set as “Not Used”,
STP Autoconfiguration set as “Auto”.

 In LLDP Settings LLDP Usage to be set as Used ; LLDP Mode as Standard


 Repeat above checking on the radio at other end of the link. Follow the Helix Design in Radio Engineering Order.

Set a current Date and UTC time with Time Zone = 0 by clicking Modify button in Date/Time Settings:

3 Equipment Setup
3.1 Equipment Mode Setting
From the Detail Menu select Equipment Setup->Equipment Configuration. Click on Setup button
and set the following and ensure Equipment Mode set as below. If not, click Modify button and correct the
settings

3.2 Equipment Configuration


Select Equipment Setup->Equipment Configuration. Click on Setup button and set the following
below.
 In the NE Name enter the Helix TID (eg 22YJ-VR4-1801-F02-27)
 Autodetect the slots or set them manually. In case of STM-A usage, choose a “Through mode”
manually.

 Set Modem Configuration as per Radio and Helix Design


 Ok to save the changes

Follow the steps and navigate to the next step by clicking Next button at the bottom of the window. Left
Hand side of the table will show Current Settings, Right hand side table – New Settings and the last page for the
confirmation for all changed details (highlighted in Blue)

3.3 Radio Configuration


Select Equipment Setup->Radio Configuration. Click on Setup button and set Modem configuration
for each required slot. Follow the Helix Design in Radio Engineering Order.

Confirm all settings are as per the section called Equipment Setup in NEC Provisioning and
Commissioning Guide (Radio Configuration). Navigate to the next step by clicking Next button.

Before submitting New changes (highlighted in blue) check if correct.

NOTE: in case if ATPC enabled make sure TX range defined in TX Power Setting

3.4 AMR (Adaptive Modulation Radio) / Radio Configuration


Select Equipment Setup->AMR/Radio Mapping Configuration. Click on Setup button and set AMR
for each required slot. Follow the Helix Design in Radio Engineering Order. All E1/STM to be set as zeros
Ensure all settings are set as per the section called Equipment Setup in NEC Provisioning and
Commissioning Guide (AMR/Radio Mapping Configuration). Navigate to the next step by clicking Next
button

When all changes are finished the last window will present the confirmation screen with all changes you
have made highlighted in blue – confirm with OK or go Back to amend.

If STM1-A card is utilized, add the channels that will be used in the STM-1 Mapping column.
Remaining Ethernet bandwidth will be calculated once STM1 channels have been assigned.
The example below shows ethernet bandwidth before(blue) and after(green) 1xSTM channel assigned to the
modem.

Reference Modulation in case of STM1 used:


1. Zero, one or two STM-1 channels can be assigned to each modem.
2. Because the minimum modem L1 throughput must be greater than the STM-1 channel requirements, the table
below shows the minimum Reference Modulation settings needed to support the configured STM-1 channel(s).

Note: if Radio config changes need to be done remotely start Radio config from the far end
Repeat process for radio at the other end of the link.

3.5 Space diversity 2+2


Please, find below the example for SD 2+2 build on NEC Radio
1. 2+2 SD link (or as per Digicel standard 2+0 SD), since SD link will be work as a redundant path.
2. Both H and V main ODUs have been connected to the first slot of each SW GRP i.e. at Slot # 1 and
Slot # 3
3. Both SD ODUs have been connected to the second slot of each SW GRP i.e. at Slot#2 and Slot#4

The below setting to be configured at “Radio Switich Setting” tab for both sites. This is just to prioritize Main
Antenna since the main antenna usually is larger than the SD antenna.

SD will be working in auto revertive mode.


Tx Switch Priority (SW) - whenever No. 1 recovers or is in normal operation, it will revert back to Main ODU.

Also, using “Tx SW Lock-in Usage” option, it will lock-in to No. 2 for 24 Hrs if there are >10 times switching
in 10 minutes. This is to avoid frequent switching activity.

Detail description for all of these SW setting:

By default, High BER sets at 1E-4 and Low BER at 1E-7, however, we can set Low BER alarm up to 1E-9 for
Rx Threshold alarm. Digicel recommendation to leave the default settings.

4 Inventory
4.1 Check Firmware Version
The inventory retrieves and displays the information of IDU mounted H/W in the chassis and ODU information
as follows:
 Firmware/Software/FPGA Version 07.21.04 - is the approved version to deploy. If Firmware not matching,
follow with Firmware upgrade

Please contact Aviat to get latest version of FW

NOTE: In case of VR10 firmware upgrade after Program File selected for the Main card upgrade and Main
Card firmware upgraded, FPGA Data to be selected and executed for the Gigabit cards (Gbe4e; Gbe4F; XGbe-
MV) upgrades on VR10 units. Controller upgrade to be done after Main card upgrade.
NOTE: this is service affecting.

 To perform a firmware upgrade on a Main Card first place the unit in maintenance mode
 In the MENU frame on the left, expand Equipment Utility and select Update (storage to NE).
 Select the required area for upgrade – Program file relates to the firmware. Click the Execute button

 From the program file option window select the Main Card 1 ( or 2 ) from the drop down menu then
click Next (start from Main Card 1 if VR10).

 In the Import File option box select the media (Local PC or USB Memory) then browse to where the file
is located and select Open.

 Confirm the correct file has been selected and click OK button and OK again on the Warning dialog box
if OK.

 Download progress bar may appear. When complete the update complete dialog box will appear.

 If you require to change to the new firmware at this point tick the Program ROM Switching box and
click OK. It will reboot radio and activate a new version of firmware.

 Confirm it is OK to continue by clicking OK on the warning dialog box and OK when the Information
window appears.

 The unit will reboot after that– login when ready to confirm in the inventory or the firmware is running
on the updated version.

Note: Main Card 2 will also show if a second main card is installed in case of VR10.
 If do not plan to activate new firmware at the same time with uploading, you can do it later via
Equipment Utility->Program ROM Switrching->choose the Main card and ensure Uncurrent version is a
new Version of firmware you would like to upgrade to, click ok and system will activate new Firmware.

Follow above steps to ensure upgrading uncurrent version.


This process will take up to 10 minutes (5 minutes for upgrade and 5minutes for reboot).
Once Firmware upgraded for the main cards and FPGA data executed for Ethernet cards (Gbe4e; Gbe4F; XGbe-MV)
make sure that controller upgrade also completed in case if version on controller not matching to version 9.02.00

5 Software licence setup


5.1 Enable the External Buffer
 setting expand the S/W License Setup to select External Buffer Setting. The S/W License Setup –
External Buffer Setting window appears.
 Click the Setup tool button, Enable the External buffer and click the OK button

Note: To enable the External Buffer, it is recommended to set the queue length to 128 kilobytes or
greater. See section for QoS/Classification Settings.
 Check if the system is OK to reset then click the OK button on the warning dialog box to proceed, then
OK on the information dialog box. Another Information dialog box will appear to inform the user the
session has been terminated – click OK and wait until login is available again after re-boot.
 it takes about 5 mins for radio to restore – wait until it is pingable and log in again

6 Security Management
6.1 Service Status Setting
In the MENU frame on the left, expand Network Management Setting->Security Management-
>Service Status Setting. Service Status setting window appears:

6.1.1 SNMP setting


 Set SNMP v3 - enabled
 UDP port – 161
 Access Mode – Proprietary

6.1.2 SNMP community


Digicel will provide SNMP Communities.
Click a Community number to add
The SNMP Community options window appears for the number that has been selected
SNMP Community No.1
 Community Name – public (this is case sensitive – all lower case)
 Access Level – leave as Admin
 Enable access Control 1 and set:
o Source IP Address 1: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
o Subnet Mask 1: 255.255.255.255 or provided subnet from the drop down
 Enable Access Control 2 and set:
o Source IP Address 1: XXX.XXX.XXX.YYY
o Subnet Mask 1: 255.255.255.255 or provided subnet from the drop down
 Enable Access Control 3 and set:
o Source IP Address 1: XXX.YYY.YYY.YYY
o Subnet Mask 1: 255.255.255.255 or provided subnet from the drop down

If Digicel needs, a second SNMP Community can be set; like athena or any other web based monitoring
platform

6.1.4 FTP and SFTP Setting


FTP or SFTP can be enabled however please follow the Digicel standard

6.1.5 SSHv2 Setting


Set SSHv2 Server and Client running

6.1.6 HTTP/HTTPS Setting


 HTTP – Disabled
 HTTPS – Enabled, leave port number as 443 (default value).

Note: If any TCP Port Numbers are changed the CPU must be re-started in order for the changes to take effect.

6.2 RADIUS
NOTE: This is a very last step for the NEC Radio configuration (for now). This below setting is an example.

6.2.1 User Authentication Configuration


From the Network Management Setting->User Account/Security Setting-> User Authentication Configuration.
 Authentication method - NE + RADIUS
 Authentication sequence – RADIUS Server -> NE

6.2.2 RADIUS Setting


From the menu structure select Network Management Setting > Security Management > Radius Setting. In the RADIUS tab
set as below:
 Timeout - 5s
 Retry Count - 4
 Default Permission -Operator

For radio location in State-1

 Enter the RADIUS Server Settings as Follows:


 RADIUS Server Number 1:
o IP - 10.194.XX1.YYY
o Port - 1812
o Encryption Method - User
o Secret Key – abcdef
 RADIUS Server Number 2:
o IP - 10.194.XX2.YYY
o Port - 1812

Once values have been entered the updated information will now appear in the RADIUS Setting window:

6.3 Syslog Setting


System Logging Protocol (Syslog) is a communication protocol to transfer log
messages of NEs to a logging server.
1. In the MENU frame on the left, expand Network Management, then its submenu Security Management
to select Service Status Setting. The Service Status Setting window appears.
2. Click the Syslog link and the Syslog Setting Window appears

3. Leave the following default values for each parameter.

Syslog Server entry – Click on the Syslog Server Entry No. to access the Syslog Server Entry Options
Window.

7 Check Radio Licences


For the iPasolink VR4/VR10 bundle licence details will be supplied as standard pre-installed in each
chassis. Please, refer to NEC Commissioning and Provisioning Guide (Radio Licences) for more information.
Any additional keys will need to be added.

7.1 iPasolink Additional keys


In addition to the factory default supplied for each chassis, Each Modem-AV that is purchased NEC will load
the following keys into the Digicel SKA server. These are generic keys and Digicel needs to issue these to a
serial number and push them out from the UNMS.

Special Digicel bundle license Modem-AV


includes the below licenses NEC Comment
XPIC function 1x licence per Modem-AV
900Mbps 1x licence per Modem-AV
iPASO AK VR Radio Redundancy (1+1) 1x licence per Modem-AV

Note: Please, see SKA Access and/or SKA user guide for key issue
TDM function key is required only for STM1 channelized use, STM1 through mode does not require this licence.

7.2 Setup Software License


In case if licence key should be uploaded not from SKA server, but from a local source use the following
procedure. In the MENU frame on the left, expand the S/W License Setup to select Import License key.
The Import License key window appears.
Click the Setup tool button

Browse to the location of the target file that if it’s stored on the PC, highlight the correct file to upload
and click Open button to proceed. Import License key options window displays the selected file name.

Confirm the file name, then click the OK button to proceed. When the importing process ends, the
Import License key window updates the information.

7.3 Radio Capacity Settings


In the Main Menu expand the S/W License Setup to select Radio Capacity Setting. The Radio Capacity
Setting window appears.
Click the Setup tool button and select the MODEM Position (e.g.slot 3 &4) from the New State drop-down list
to specify the state, then click the OK button.

8 Modem Function Settings


The setup procedures provided here are for furthering the system’s fundamental configuration upon completion
of the equipment setup.

8.1 Modem Port Setting


NOTE: When setting the Transparent Clock Settings – always configure the far end of the link first. Setting must
match on both ends.
 Click a desired MODEM/SW GRP No. link to configure,
Assign values as per the Digicel link design with the remainder of settings as per the screen shot below.
Click OK, and OK on the information dialog box when it appears

8.2 Radio Switch Setting


Radio switch setting will only be available for switch groups, Specify the TX/RX SW priority, TXSW
locking usage, and TX SW reverse function usage. Where applicable Digicel recommends to use
Revertive mode.
For more details refer to NEC Commissioning and Provisioning Guide (Radio Switch Setting section)

8.3 TX Power Setting


Specify the thresholds of TX Power and RX Power in MTPC/ATPC configuration. Digicel will be using MTPC
mode (to set MTPC refer to Radio configuration)
 Provisioning > Modem function > Tx Power Setting
 Click a desired MODEM/SW GRP No. to configure:
TX Power Setting options window appears. Assign the following parameters:
 MTPC Tx Power – set to max value in permitted range as designed.

8.4 XPIC Setting


1. Click a desired XPIC GRP No. to configure:
2. XPIC Setting options window appears. Check XPIC Pair Mute Mode should be set as Disabled

3. Click OK when done and OK on any dialog boxes that appear.

8.5 AMR Setting


This section is for setting the conditions of AMR Switch operation.
1. Click a desired XPIC GRP No. to configure:
2. AMR Setting options window appears. Assign the Digicel required settings as per the below screen shot:

8.6 Encryption Setting


If Digicel wants to use encryption, we can enable it as below
1. In the Main Menu select the Provisioning->Modem Function Stetting->Encryption Setting and Set
Encryption Key

2. This will open the Encryption Key Configuration window

3. Click the Set Passphrase tool button to open the Set Passphrase options window.
4. Enter the any suitable passphrase; example- DigicelMW_XYZ
5. Click a desired modem or SW GRP No. to configure and Enable Encryption.
Important NOTES:
 This function is supported only in MODEM-AV
 Ensure you are performing this procedure on the far end site first. This operation is Service Affecting

8.7 BR Circuit Equalizer Settings


The NEC BR Multichannel Combiner unit is utilized as a combiner/divider for 2 to 8 ODU’s. For operational
specifications and scenarios please refer to the sections in the Digicel High Level Solution Design Document.
For Delay Equalizer setting refer to the sections in the NEC Commissioning and Provisioning Guide.

NOTES: This Section will have to be performed only locally and is not available for remote configuration

The OBR modules are used to combine multiple ODUs for a single antenna. They reduce the interference of
each ODU from the co-located ODUs at very low signal loss.

The OBR modules and ODUs are assembled and mounted close to the antenna. The picture shows 8 x OBR
modules connected for a single antenna polarisation. 1-8 modules can be used for each polarisation.

When OBR modules are used, the NE Equalization configuration settings must be set to the values calculated
using the procedure below.

Important note:
Branching unit scenario under NEC MW design will be specified in PA according to below scenarios:
 For any L6GHz, U6GHz, 8GHz 3+0 or 4+0 links, branching unit is default option, unless coupler is specified in PA.
 For any L6GHz, U6GHz, 8GHz 2+0 links, coupler is default option, unless branching unit is specified in PA/SAED
due to channel assignment requirement.
 For other frequency band, coupler is the only option for 2+0, 3+0, 4+0.

9 Ethernet Function Setting


This section provides the settings and options required for traffic. Digicel settings will be in VLAN mode.
 In the MENU frame on the left, expand Provisioning, then its submenu ETH Function Setting.
 Under the ETH Function Setting submenu select the required section to check or modify.

9.1 Equipment Setting


1. Select Equipment Setting in the Menu frame then Bridge Setting from the available selection. Digicel
production will use VLAN mode 802.1ad. Select VLAN mode 802.1Q then confirm with OK. Other
settings to be left default unless otherwise stated in the Digicel link design

9.2 Ethernet Port Setting


 Select the ETH Port setting to open the window. Click the link for the desired port to open the ETH
port Setting window for that port.
 Enter the Parameters as per the Digicel link design with all other parameters as per the screenshot below.

 Click OK to confirm any changed settings and OK if any dialog boxes appear (if the conditions are
acceptable).
NOTE 1: For any NAP or NTU NCS-540 devices, the NCS-540 interface connected to Microwave should be
configured with the correct QoS policies:
service-policy output NAP_EGRESS_MARKING
service-policy output NAP_EGRESS_QUEUING
If not the case, then fix accordingly.

NOTE 2: “trust 8021p” needs to be configured on NAP NTU sub-interfaces connected to Microwave,
irrespective of radio type if AA is CX600-M. If not configured, then fix accordingly.

 In the MENU frame on the left, expand Provisioning, then its submenu ETH Function Setting.
 Select VLAN Setting submenu.
 In the VLAN List tabbed page, click the Add VLAN ID button on the tool bar.

 Specify VLAN ID (displayed S-VLAN ID for 802.1ad) and VLAN Service Name as per Digicel
requirements. Example below shows S-VLAN 3000 and 3050 assigned:

 S-VLAN 3000 is used for the services via 22BL<->2NTI NEC Radio Link and terminates at 2NTI.
 S-VLAN 3050 is used for the services via 22BL<->2NTI<->2NEL NEC Radio Links and terminates at
2NEL.

 Click OK on any confirmation or warning boxes if the conditions are OK. These VLAN’s will now
appear in the VLAN list.

NOTE: To delete a VLAN click the Delete VLAN ID button and select required VLAN.

 To display the VLAN’s settings click the VLAN Setting tab the select the port where the VLAN will be
assigned. Example below shows Modem in slot 1.
Example below shows Radio GRP1 and Eth GRP configuration.
 Radio Interfaces are configured in S-Trunk Mode as seen in the VLAN Port Type column.
 Ethernet Interfaces are configured in C-Bridge Mode as seen in the VLAN Port Type column.

 The window will appear for the specific item you are assigning the VLAN to.
As mentioned above, it is recommended to use S-Trunk port type for radio interfaces.

10.1 STM-1 port setting (Through mode)

Note: To display all existing registered cross connections leave the Service No. field in the filter box option blank,
then click Search button.

3. Cross Connect Setting (Add) options window appears.

4. Set a service name and assign the appropriate values to each parameter in accordance with the Digicel link
design.
To assign the port number to either the STM1 card or the modem highlight the required port & modem.
Note that for Through mode, each STM-1 circuit must be assigned to a Modem.

11 QoS /Classification Setting


Digicel will be using the default settings of Equipment based tacacs Mode with settings as per the below
screen shot.
1. In the MENU frame on the left, expand Provisioning->ETH Function Setting -> QoS/Classification
Setting-> Shaper Setting tab.
2. Select the Number of Queue link.
3. Change the setting from 4 classes QoS to 8 Classes QoS, click OK when done.

4. Still in the Shaper Setting window click the Edit Profile Button.

5. Edit the profile to reflect the settings and values in the following screen shot.
NOTE: for this step the external buffer must be enabled (refer to Firmware Upgrade section). This is a
SA operation and must be done from the far end first.

12 Equipment Clock and Synchronization


12.1 Equipment Clock Setting
In the MENU frame on the left, expand Provisioning-> Equipment Clock/Synchronization Setting->
Equipment Clock Setting from the menu then click the Modify button. The Equipment Clock Setting
window appears.

Assign the settings as per the Digicel link design, then click the OK button. The screen shot shows example
only of where timing sources can be taken from. In Digicel production only set “SSM Usage” as “Use” and
remain “Forced SSM Value” blank. In Digicel MV link, use automatic clock QL detect with SSM. Click OK
to confirm and OK on any dialog boxes that appear if conditions are OK

12.2 PTP mode setting

Notes:
• It is recommended that the Radio Transparent Clock Setting option be enabled for the PTP communication using
radio links –see Modem Port Setting
• When changing the Transparent Clock Settings always configure the far end first.
• As per Digicel advice PTP GM is not available. However, the PTP Mode setting is still required to be configured
on any newly commissioned NEC Radio equipment.
Step1. From Equipment Clock/Synchronisation menu select PTP Mode Setting and click the Modify PTP Mode
button.
PTP mode to be changed to Boundary Clock (BC), all other settings remain the same as default. Click Next
and then OK.

13 Check Radio Link Performance


 In the MENU frame on the left, expand Metering, then select Metering window appears.

13.1 Radio RF Metering

13.3 XPD check


This test is only applicable for links utilizing XPIC.
This will measure the Cross Polarization Discrimination. For recording use the below table.
 The difference between the Rx Vertical Level and the interference level from the horizontal pol.
 The difference between the Rx Horizontal Level and the interference level from the vertical pol.

5. The difference between test 1 and 4 needs to be > 25dBm for effective operation. When result obtained
un-mute vertical transmitter at site A (all TX should be active).
6. On Site A mute the Horizontal pol transmitter (do not mute the Vertical), and record the Receiver level
of the Horizontal at Site B.
7. The difference between test 1 and 6 needs to be > 25dBm for effective operation. When result obtained
un-mute horizontal transmitter at site A (all TX should be active).
8. On Site B mute the Horizontal pol transmitter (do not mute the Vertical), and record the Receiver level
of the Horizontal at Site A.
9. The difference between test 1 and 8 needs to be > 25dBm for effective operation. When result obtained
un-mute horizontal transmitter at site A (all TX should be active).

13.4 Receiver Isolation Noise Level


This test will check the isolation of the receivers at site from additional transmitters, particularly in the
case on N+1 systems.
Receive levels should be < -85 dBm for each modem in the link, or no higher than levels measured at
12.5 If the values are above this for any receiver then permission from engineering is required before
the link can be accepted.
 Ensure the all transmitters on the link are transmitting in normal working conditions.
 On Site A mute the first modem’s transmitter of the link you are working on and record the receiver level
of the corresponding modem’s receiver at site B. When result obtained un-mute the transmitter.

 Continue muting Site A modem’s transmitters and recording the corresponding RX level at site B and
un-muting once result is obtained, until all have been recorded.
 On Site B mute the first modem’s transmitter of the link you are working on and record the receiver level
of the corresponding modem’s receiver at site A. When result obtained un-mute the transmitter.
 Continue muting Site B modem’s transmitters and recording the corresponding RX level at site A and
un-muting once result is obtained, until all have been recorded.

13.5 Background noise check


This test is to check the Background Noise of the site.
 Place the iPasolink’s into Maintenance mode. The MAINT indicator will turn yellow.

 Mute all modem transmitters on the link and record the receive values of all the receivers on the link.
Receive levels should be < -85 dBm for all. If the values are above this for any receiver then permission
from engineering is required before the link can be accepted.
Mute using Maintenance Control > Modem Maintenance Control > Tx Mute Control

14 Performance Monitoring
The performance monitoring (PM) is used to identify and isolate the problem if occurred at a particular line or
path. This function also monitors quality of lines and paths. All PM parameters are collected every minute and
accumulated for 15-minute and 24-hour (1 day) statistics.
 Red-coloured field indicates the value of TCN report
 Yellow-coloured field indicates that the system is in Maintenance Mode
 A value with and asterisk (*) is invalid, which could not appropriately obtained due to the failed
condition (alarm), etc.

14.1 View and save PM Reports


1. Launch and log in to WebLCT.
2. In the MENU frame on the left, expand PMON/RMON Report to select the desired object.

3. Clinking on the link for the item will provide a more detailed report, clinking on the date will provide a
breakdown of that day with 15 minute intervals.

4. At this individual card or switch group level the PMON or RMON report should be exported to CSV file
by clicking the Export CSV file button in the top left of the window and attached to Helix. By the time
of the link acceptance there shouldn’t be any abnormalities in the saved reports (such as discard packets,
collisions, etc.)

15 User Account – change passwords and User Authentication


Important NOTE: Date and time must be set first prior to changing Admin password
Note: this can only be changed at Admin level. If/When re-logging into equipment remember to use new values.
In the MENU frame on the left, expand Network Management Setting-> User Account / Security
Setting->user section to modify.
1. Select User Account Management from the sub menu.
2. All 3 accounts: Admin/Config/User require the password changing, select each link and change all
three tabs:
 Set Password tab
 Set Authentication Key tab
 Set Private Key tab
3. Digicel Settings as per below and set the new password for each tab to 12457910

4. When all three areas are changed click OK on the User Setting window.
5. To check the account, log out and log back into the account with the new credentials.
NOTE: to ensure password updated properly manually enter and re-enter it, don’t copy and paste from a
memory buffer.

 Right click on a blue button and create a section. At the bottom panel assign a correct Modem/Port or
Aggregation Group, click Save and then Finish and Activate assignment.

In a new popped up window click Add (1) and a new task will be created in the table
enable L2 (if hasn’t been selected before) for discovery(2) and tick it (3), Select NE group from the
popped up list which requires L2 discovery (4). Once defined select the task(5) and Apply for the

Refresh the window until result is completed. When completed, L2 path will be visible in the main map
in UNMS

17 EMS Client
17.1 EMS Client Login and Logout
For login start up the UNMS EMS Client and login by using your credentials.

For logout use the main menu Systems->Logout or Exit

17.2 New Group Creation


To add a new group into the existing Group view you need to enable edit mode first.
In the right top corner, you click on the pen and wait for the group view changed to EDIT MODE
Note: only single user can use EDIT mode at a time in EMS Client.
(refer to section 16.5 for more information)

Right click on the relevant state and chose to “Add New Group”.

The new group will be created with the generic name. To change the name of freshly created group
right click on that folder and chose “Properties”. Change the name in a new popped up window.

To delete or move the folder use the same right click option and move folder to required location or
delete it.
Release Edit function by simply clicking on the pen icon in the right top corner to make it inactive

17.3 Network and NE Discovery


The discovery of NEs would be normally done in clusters. This is automatic and via LLDP all NEs within the
root nodes subnet and neighbouring NEs (via microwave) are detected automatically.
 Run the Connection Management Network wizard (in the Network Settings menu) and follow the below
steps.

 Click Next and Add, new record will appear highlighted in blue, double click on “Region” to get a
drop down menu and choose the state

 Enter the B-end IDU IP address in IP address field and click Next and then Next

If operation was implemented successfully all 3 points on screenshot below are green.

 Click Next and you will see the new IDUs were detected under the right Subfolder

 Once updating completed, back to the Group view Main DIGICEL folder. The newly discovered NEs

 Right click and move to the correct subfolder which you already created

 Navigate to Subfolder and move both boxes into the main map for this subfolder.
By staying in the Edit mode enable “line” mode and connect both boxed by clicking first near end and
then far end.

 Enable a text mode and add Helix EO number and link configuration.

 Disable the Edit mode and navigate to Connection View. By enabling Edit mode correct name of the
subfolder from default to Digicel standard.

 NOTE: if any NE in the same subnet were discovered previously use the Connection Management NE
wizard and follow similar steps as for Connection Management Network above.
 NOTE: to discover elements in EMS in case when NEC boxes located on the same site and
interconnected with traffic cable you will need to disable the LLDP function on ethernet ports from both
ends, discover new elements. Once discovered LLDP function must be turned back on.
Make a note that disabling and re-enabling LLDP function on traffic port may impact the traffic.

17.4 Group and Connection View updates


Make sure that Group view and Connection View subfolder name updated according to Digicel
standards.

17.5 To Disconnect User in Edit mode


There is a limitation in EMS system that only single user can use EDIT mode at a time in EMS Client.
You may check who occupied the session with Edit mode in Systems->Client list

Status against the name will show Edit mode and name of the person who does the changes.

You may push for disconnect (use right click on required line in the list), but the person who
disconnected may lose all changes which haven’t been saved.
The preferable solution will be to contact that person and ask to logout/exit from Edit mode.

18.1 Login to SKA
Once new NE discovered in the UNMS, in order to upload the Capacity, XPIC or 1+1 licences, please use your credentials
to login to SKA server.

Each morning SKA synchs with the EMS, this is set via schedule time 1:30am
If NE’s are recently discovered on EMS, then a manual Synch is required. Please request Digicel NE to
proceed with Manual Sync in SKA. Log in as the admin to see the extra buttons to manually sync.

18.4 Upgrade Current Key


1. Select the upgrade Key Tab->Select/tick the NE->press”Get Inventory” button->Ok

If “refresh” is red and blinking, press it to refresh the screen.

2. Select/tick the required box and for applying a new feature click a “Create Software Key” button. If
the create software button is still greyed out, then a refresh required. Press Ok and Yes.
3. New “Issue Upgrade Key” window will pop-up. Select the feature/slot you want to upgrade and
then “Issue Upgrade Key” button.

4. Once done system will open the list with all available features for Digicel. If there is enough
Unissued Quantity of selected features press “Software Key Download”

At the bottom table operation status will indicate when process started and when completed.

5. When operations were completed, back to the “Upgrade Key” tab, select NE list (press Refresh if
required) and to apply a new feature to the required NE press Confirm.

18.5 Swap Function Key

1. Select a Swap Function Key Tab->select/tick required NE. Press Edit button.
2. Change the feature you would like to transfer/move to initial value for this feature. Press Apply.

3. When Swap Function Key operations completed, Refresh and Confirm changes.

4. Key pool table will show unused quantity of swapped feature.


5. To Reallocate a feature to a new NE, stay on a Swap Function Key Tab. Select/tick a new NE and
click Edit
6. Change a desired feature on selected NE and click Apply. Once operation completed Key pool also
will be updated.
