1 Introduction
The NEC VR10 VR4 Traditional Microwave Radio is a Multi service Radio System which Digicel will use
mainly as a backhaul to carry Ethernet Links to Mobile sites. This document is the Commissioning guide to
configure and functioning correctly before it is put into service in the Digicel Network.
Open the Internet Explorer browser window and enter the https://IP address for the radio at one
end of the new link in the Address window and click enter.
Default IP address is 172.17.254.253
Log in with User Name: Admin, and use one of the
default password if not changed by personnel on site (12345678)
Open a second Internet Explorer browser window or browser tab and enter the IP address for the radio at
the other end of the new link to log into the second radio.
The Current Status View (Front Panel View) of the IDU should appear, go to Detail Menu to navigate,
view or change settings (as on a below picture) To view Active Alarms, Event Log, etc. use a “Refresh” button
and navigate through the menu panel under the Front Panel View.

and set the following and ensure Equipment Mode set as below. If not, click Modify button and correct the
settings
Follow the steps and navigate to the next step by clicking Next button at the bottom of the window. Left
Hand side of the table will show Current Settings, Right hand side table – New Settings and the last page for the
confirmation for all changed details (highlighted in Blue)
Confirm all settings are as per the section called Equipment Setup in NEC Provisioning and
Commissioning Guide (Radio Configuration). Navigate to the next step by clicking Next button.
NOTE: in case if ATPC enabled make sure TX range defined in TX Power Setting

When all changes are finished the last window will present the confirmation screen with all changes you
have made highlighted in blue – confirm with OK or go Back to amend.
If STM1-A card is utilized, add the channels that will be used in the STM-1 Mapping column.
Remaining Ethernet bandwidth will be calculated once STM1 channels have been assigned.
The example below shows ethernet bandwidth before(blue) and after(green) 1xSTM channel assigned to the
modem.

4 Inventory
4.1 Check Firmware Version
The inventory retrieves and displays the information of IDU mounted H/W in the chassis and ODU information
as follows:
Firmware/Software/FPGA Version 07.21.04 - is the approved version to deploy. If Firmware not matching,
follow with Firmware upgrade
NOTE: In case of VR10 firmware upgrade after Program File selected for the Main card upgrade and Main
Card firmware upgraded, FPGA Data to be selected and executed for the Gigabit cards (Gbe4e; Gbe4F; XGbe-
MV) upgrades on VR10 units. Controller upgrade to be done after Main card upgrade.
NOTE: this is service affecting.
To perform a firmware upgrade on a Main Card first place the unit in maintenance mode
In the MENU frame on the left, expand Equipment Utility and select Update (storage to NE).
Select the required area for upgrade – Program file relates to the firmware. Click the Execute button
From the program file option window select the Main Card 1 ( or 2 ) from the drop down menu then
click Next (start from Main Card 1 if VR10).
14

In the Import File option box select the media (Local PC or USB Memory) then browse to where the file
is located and select Open.
Confirm the correct file has been selected and click OK button and OK again on the Warning dialog box
if OK.
Download progress bar may appear. When complete the update complete dialog box will appear.
If you require to change to the new firmware at this point tick the Program ROM Switching box and
click OK. It will reboot radio and activate a new version of firmware.
Confirm it is OK to continue by clicking OK on the warning dialog box and OK when the Information
window appears.
The unit will reboot after that– login when ready to confirm in the inventory or the firmware is running
on the updated version.
15
RESTRICTED
Note: Main Card 2 will also show if a second main card is installed in case of VR10.
If do not plan to activate new firmware at the same time with uploading, you can do it later via
Equipment Utility->Program ROM Switrching->choose the Main card and ensure Uncurrent version is a
new Version of firmware you would like to upgrade to, click ok and system will activate new Firmware.
16

using the procedure below.
Important note:
Branching unit scenario under NEC MW design will be specified in PA according to below scenarios:
For any L6GHz, U6GHz, 8GHz 3+0 or 4+0 links, branching unit is default option, unless coupler is specified in PA.
For any L6GHz, U6GHz, 8GHz 2+0 links, coupler is default option, unless branching unit is specified in PA/SAED
due to channel assignment requirement.
For other frequency band, coupler is the only option for 2+0, 3+0, 4+0.
