the modules that you have previously done. You will be required to answer the pre-test
to see how much information/knowledge do you know about the topic but you do not
have to submit your answers. You will be challenged to do different activities in
relation to the subject. You will see that there will be a lot of topics that may seem
unfamiliar to you. There are also topics that will still confuse you so buckle up and
join me in this quest to accomplish this module. Fighting!

activities, brainstorming and consultation through online group chats using android
phone, laptop, desktop or any technology being used for communication will be
utilized if available.

Let me also take this chance to tell you some of the instructions for this
subject:
a) for any queries, feel free to contact your instructors through the provided

LESSON 1: RECAPITULATION OF:

MODULE 1 (IMPORTANCE, MEANING, and ASSUMPTIONS of ART,
MODULE 2 (SUBJECT and CONTENT),
MODULE 3 (ARTISTS AND ARTISANS, and
MODULE 4 (ELEMENTS and PRINCIPLES OF ART)

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:
1. demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of arts in general, including
their function, value, historical significance, subject, content, elements, and
principles;
2. explain an artist or artisan’s medium and technique; and,
3. integrate learnings in all the activities through poem writing.

Are you ready? Make sure you have worn your seatbelts for
LET’S this quest will surely make your mood upside down. Or
ENGAGE! worse, it will rock you. Kidding aside.

But before anything else, let us have a simple but

challenging activity that will serve as our review for the previous modules that we have
tackled.

Do you still remember the following terms? Let us see how much you can recall by
answering the following questions in your own words.
1. Why should we appreciate art? How do you appreciate art?
_________________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________________.

2. Discuss the difference between an artist and artisan and the artist’s subject and
their content.

2
_________________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________________.

3. Explain the relevance of elements and principles of art in the study of art and its
products.
_________________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________________.

Again what is art? Well, art (according to Panisan, W.K., et al.

2018) is rooted in the 13th century French word art, which
means skill as a result of learning or practice, and the Latin
word ars, meaning ability or practical skills.

Before we proceed further, I’d like you to bring out your

modules, go back on the specific topic and follow on as we have
a short review for you to be easily guided. Are you ready? Let’s begin!

You also came across the importance, meaning and assumptions of art in Module
1, Subject and Content in Module 2, Artists and Artisans in Module 3, and the elements
and principles of art in Module 4.

As we move on, we’ll have a brief review about all your modules. So, your
answer in the first question in the Let’s Engage activity will summarize all your
lessons in Module 1. Do you think your answers are enough to justify all of your
learnings in this module? If so, that is good for you and for us instructors.

As we all know, an artist and an artisan is different in a way that an artist is an

art practitioner (painter, sculptor, choreographer, dancer, writer, poet, musicians)
while an artisan is a craftsman (carpenter, carver, plumber, blacksmith, weaver,
embroiderer). Further, bear in mind that an artist or an artisan’s medium and
technique has different subject and content. Also, there are elements and principles
that were integrated in the arts products.

To cut it short, an artist or an artisan uses different mediums to decide on their

subject thereby applying different elements and principles to produce an output. They
also use different techniques to show the different meanings and contents of their
output.
Let us go back to some of the terms that we really need to take note for future
use.

TERMS TO REMEMBER:
REPRESENTATIONAL ART – refers to objects or events occurring in the real
world
NON-REPRESENTATIONAL ART- it does not make a reference to the real world,
whether it is a person, place, thing, or even a particular event.
ARTIST – art practitioner
ARTISAN – craftsman
LINE – refers to a point moving at an identifiable path (it has length, direction,
and width

3
SHAPE and FORM – they define the space occupied by the object of art
SPACE – usually inferred from a sense of depth, whether it is real or
simulated
COLOR – one of the elements that enhances the appeal of an artwork
TEXTURE – experienced through the sense of touch
BALANCE – refers to the distribution of the visual elements in view of their
placement in relation to each other.
SCALE – pertains to the size in relation to what is normal for the figure or
object in question.
PROPORTION – the size of the components, or of objects in relation to one
another when taken as composition or a unit.
HARMONY – it is a sense of flow and interconnectedness
MOVEMENT – refers to the direction of the viewing eye as it goes through the
artwork, often guided by areas or elements that are emphasized.
RHYTHM – created when an element is repeated creating implied movement

Now, we hope you have taken down notes and highlighted the important terms
and topics in your previous modules because your next task to do is to answer the
activity on the “It’s your turn” part. You are also advised to bring out your mobile
phones if you have, turn on your mobile data/wifi if you have access to the internet
and search on some of the few terms or topics that you are still not clear with. If you
do not have mobile phones, I hope you have dictionaries with you. If none, you can
always borrow from your friends, and relatives. The rubric in each activity of this
module will be provided to guide you in the accomplishment of your task. Good luck!

Hai! Were you able to take down all the important

details?
If not, go back and reread the summary. Further, I hope
the topics came clearer to you and that you are now ready to do the activity. Are
you? If no, take deep breaths and get ready. If yes, take deep breaths and open
your activity on worksheet 5 which will be found on the latter page of this module.
God bless and work hard!

LESSON 2: RECAPITULATION OF:

MODULE 5 (WESTERN ART HISTORY),
MODULE 6 (SOULMAKING, APPROPRIATION, and IMPROVISATION), and,
MODULE 7 (ART MAKING)
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:
1. differentiate the techniques used during the three kingdoms of early Egypt;
2. develop artistic ability in any form you would like to appropriate in art;

4
3. discuss the concept of textile art, soul, and space; and,
4. integrate all learnings through landscape picture making.

LET’S Hai! Did you enjoy your activities in the previous lesson? I
ENGAGE! hope so. But if not, I advise you to learn to enjoy your
activities. If you want, you can always take a break. After
taking a break, you need to continue and proceed in this
module.

Further, we’ll now be moving on to another quest. I now advise you to pack
your things for we will be flying to the west to see some of the enchanting works of art
there. Are you excited? Come on, join me and let us enjoy the travel.

But first, I want to introduce you to the main topics of why we will be having
this travel. By doing so, let us do this activity to help us learn more.

Write your first name if the statement is correct but if it is wrong, write your last name.
Let us take the example below. My name is RYLENE LAYAGAN.
RYLENE 1. Paleolithic period in art was the time when the primitive cave artworks
were created with the use of primitive stone tools.
LAYAGAN 2. Neolithic period happened in the banks of the Nile River.
________________ 1. Neolithic art is a product of climate change.
________________ 2. Neolithic art developed when life for the earlier humans has
become more stable.
________________ 3. During the Mesolithic art, humans developed cave paintings,
engravings, and ceramics to reflect their daily lives.
________________ 4. Improvisation is the art and act of improvising, or composing,
uttering, executing, or arranging anything without previous preparation.
________________ 5. Appropriation refers to borrowing images that are unrecognizable
from different sources and using these borrowed images to make a new form of art.

Do you think you got all the correct answers in your

engagement activities? Well, it is okay if you were not able to
since we’ll be having a short review of all those things.

First is that we need to talk about the Western Art

History and how history came to be. Well, we all know that
art was evident since life existed on earth. There are
evidences that were presented to you in your fifth module during the Paleolithic age,
Mesolithic age, and the Neolithic age. We also have evidences of art as seen during the
times of Ancient Greeks and Ancient Rome, even during the Middle Ages, and the
Renaissance.

Moving on, let us see soul making, appropriation, and improvisation. All these
important terms are in your previous modules already. Nevertheless, let us still define
them. Soul making or art making primarily based on drawing out or depicting the
experiences and practices in an individual and transforming these into images either
into a painting, a sculpture, a composition, a production, or any other art form.
Appropriation refers to borrowing images that are recognizable from different sources
and using this borrowed images to make a new art form. But, it is different from
copying or forgery. As for improvisation, it is the art and act of improvising or

5
composing, uttering, executing, or arranging anything without previous preparation or
producing something from whatever is existing or available. I also expect you to
highlight every important term in your module for you to be guided once you review for
your final examination.

How about art making and the Philippine textile art? Well, let us know first what is
textile art. Textile art is the process of creating something using fibers gained from
sources, like plants, animals, insects, or synthetic materials. Here in our country
Philippines, we have weaving, folk architectures, and the art of Okir.

What is weaving? It is a way to create fabric in which two separate sets of yarn
or thread are interlaced at right angles to produce cloth or fabric. As for the Okir or
Ukkil, it is the term for geometric and flowing designs and folk motifs that can be
usually found in Maranao and Muslim-influenced artwork in Mindanao, especially in
the Sulu Peninsula. It is a decorative design that is used in carving, basketry, pottery,
and weaving with patterns similar to the western style of Arabesque and Art Nouveau.

Now, we hope you have taken down notes and highlighted the important terms
and topics in your module because your next task to do is to answer the activity on
“It’s your turn” part and in preparation for your final examination. You are also
advised to bring out your mobile phones if you have, turn on your mobile data/wifi if
you have access to the internet and search on some of the few terms or topics that you
are still not clear with. If you do not have mobile phones, I hope you have dictionaries
with you. If none, you can always borrow from your friends, and relatives. The rubrics
in each activity of this module will be provided to guide you in the accomplishment of
your task. Good luck!

Hai! Were you able to take down and highlighted all the
important details? If not, go back and reread the summary. It was
supposed a short summary of modules 5, 6, and 7 but it took us a bit longer.
Nevertheless, I hope the topics came clearer to you and that you are now ready to
do the activity. Are you? If no, take deep breaths and get ready. If yes, take deep
breaths and open your activity on worksheet 2 which will be found on the latter
page of this module. God bless and work hard!

POST ASSESSMENT
Hats off! You are 80% done with this module and with this subject. The next
20% will be determined if you will finish all these activities and the final examination.

By the way, your post assessment will be your final examination that is why it
is a must for you to take your final examination (face-to-face, schedule to be
announced). Please be guided accordingly and thank you!
