The best way to do this is by offering a very easy location, like where they currently live,
rather than making them recall a holiday. This approach leverages the Availability Heuristic,
where people favor readily available information over past memories.
The ‘Use your current location’ button makes this step even easier.

2. Confirmation of first place being added
Showing a rewarding confirmation screen immediately after the user adds their current
location would kick off the user’s initial app experience with strong, positive emotions.
Presenting the percentage of the first continent they've visited subtly provides users with
their initial goal to aim for, while emphasizing their progress.
Ultimately, giving users an immediate win and a sense of progress is crucial to avoiding a
home screen with a cold start problem (which presents an uninspiring screen that’s so
open-ended that it triggers Hick’s Law).

3. Pre-populated home screen + dynamic next action
And so, as the user arrives on the home screen, they’re presented with a screen that already
has the country they live in added to their map - which leverages both the Endowment Effect
and Goal-Gradient Effect.
The first prompt then would dynamically focus on the nearest, most visited country to allow
the user to further their goal of populating the continent they’ve already made progress on.
(It’s also the place we can assume they’ve most likely visited).
I’m a big fan of the concept of this app - so I hope these small improvements can be made
so it can become my place for logging all my travels both in the past and in the future!
