New Microsoft Office Word Document

Operating systems perform basic tasks like managing input/output and memory allocation. Common operating systems include Windows, Mac OS, and UNIX. Operating systems also handle job scheduling, online and batch processing, data management, virtual storage, and input/output devices. Multi-user operating systems allow multiple users simultaneously. Multiprocessing and multitasking allow multiple programs to run concurrently. Real-time operating systems respond immediately to external inputs for tasks like navigation. Word processors are common computer applications used to create, edit, and print documents. Backups provide extra copies of data for restoration if the original data becomes corrupted or stolen.

((Classification of Operating System))

Operating System Operating system are the most important programs that run a computer every generalpurpose computer must have an operating system to run other programs. Operating systems perform basic tasks such as recognized input from the keyboard sending output to the display screen. Most commonly used operating systems include micro soft Windows, Dos XENIX, Mac OS/2 UNIX MVS, etc.Function of Operation system Job management Job management software manages the jobs waiting to be processed. It recognized the jobs, identifies their priorities, determines whether the suitable main memory and secondary storage capability they require is available and schedules and finally runs each job at the suitable moment. Batch Processing System software is available to support the different methods of processing a job. With batch processing the most basic method data are accumulated and processed in groups. On-Line Processing In on-line processing data are processed directly, using an on line system the request for information will be at once acknowledged by the on line software and the appropriate steps will be taken to access the central database and returned the requested information to the terminal from which the request was made. Data Management It the process of managing the resources of the computer system operating system software also manage the storage and retrieval of data. As the system software handle many of the details associated with this process, such details are not a primary concern for users or programmers writing application programs. Virtual storage

Operating system also manages the allocation of main memory to specific jobs. Some operating system has a feature called virtual storage. With this software it is possible to increase the capacity of main memory without actually increasing its size. Input/Output management Operation systems also manage the input to and output from a computer system. This applies to the flow of data among computes, terminals, and others devices such as printers. Application programs use the operating system widely to handle input and output devices as needed.

Multi user Multi user operating systems allow two or more users to run programs at the same time. Some operating systems permit hundreds or even thousands of concurrent users. The operating systems of mainframes and minicomputers are multi user system. Multiprocessing Multiprocessing refers to a computer system ability to support more than one process at the same time. Multiprocessing operating systems enable several programs to run concurrently. MVS and UNIX are two of the most widely used multiprocessing systems, but there are many others, including OS/2 for high end PCs. Multitasking Multitasking allows more than one program one program to run concurrently. Multitasking is the ability to execute more than one task at the same time, a task being a program. The terms multitasking and multiprocessing are often used interchangeably, although multiprocessing sometimes implies that more then one CPU is involved. Multithreading Multithreading allows different parts of a single program to run concurrently. Multithreading is the ability of an operating system to execute different parts of a program called threads, simultaneously.

Real time Real time operating system is systems that respond to input immediately. This category includes operating systems designed substantially for the purpose of controlling and monitoring external activities with timing constraints. They are used for such tasks as navigation, in which the computer must react to a steady flow of new information without interruption.

Word processor A word processor is a program that enables us to perform word processing functions. Word processors use a computer to create, edit, and print documents of all computer applications; word processors are the most common. In this program we can create, store a documents in a disk. Word processor also makes it easy to move sections of text from one place to another within a document, or between documents. In this program we can check spelling grammar and word meaning and also make tabulation and change data different style fonts and colors. It is the advance program of Microsoft Corporation and run under windows. Browser Software that interprets the markup of files in HTML, formats them into Web pages, and displays them to the end user. Some browsers also permit end users to send and receive email, read newsgroups, and play sound or video files embedded in Web documents.

((Backup)) A backup is simply an extra copy of the data froma computer system. So if data becomes corrupted or is stolen, it can berestored from the backup copy
