EXISTING SYSTEM

 Manual Attendance Taking: This involves teachers or administrators physically taking

attendance using paper-based attendance sheets or registers. Students typically sign in upon
arrival or are marked present by the teacher.
 Barcode/RFID Attendance Systems: Some schools may use barcode or RFID (Radio-
Frequency Identification) systems where students scan their ID cards upon entry to record
their attendance. These systems often require dedicated scanners or readers.
 Biometric Systems: In more advanced setups, schools may already have biometric
attendance systems in place, such as fingerprint scanners, where students scan their
fingerprints to mark attendance.

1 3
PROBLEM STATEMENT

 Nowadays educational institutes are concerned about regularity of the student attendance.
Mainly there are two conventional methods of marking attendance which are calling out the
roll numbers or by taking student’s sign on paper. They both are time consuming and difficult.

 In this project we are implementing the attendance management system using face recognition
through computer vision. We are projecting our idea to implement “Attendance Management
System based on Facial Recognition” in which it imbibes large applications. This project will
save time and eliminate chances if proxy attendance.

1 4
OBJECTIVES

 To assist in the process of attendance marking with the use official recognition technique
and record the attendance in a file.
 If there are multiple faces in a single picture, which is the case in classrooms, the proposed
model segments the entire image and fetches individual faces separately.
 To use Python and its libraries to design an application for facial recognition.

1 5
PROPOSED SYSTEM

 The hardware implementation of face detection system using Raspberry Pi, which itself is
a minicomputer of a credit card size and is of a very low price. The system is programmed
using Python programming language. The real time face detection is carried out and the
proposed system is tested across various standard face databases.

LITERATURE SURVEY

Title: Smart Attendance Management System

Authors: Harish M, Chetan P, Prajna N Holla K, Syed Abdul Azeem, M.G. Veena
A Fingerprint based attendance system was proposed by Sanjay Badhe et al. which uses a Fingerprint
module to take the fingerprint of the student. This data is wirelessly transmitted to a microcontroller via
a Zigbee wireless communication module. The fingerprint data is stored in a computer where in the
Fingerprint is recognised based on the data obtained from the Microcontroller. An RFID based
attendance system proposed by T.S.Lim,S.C.Simand,M.M.Mansor, uses a Radio Frequency
Identification Device(RFID) tag, which is unique to every individual. RFID cards are placed on the
reader and the attendance of the student/worker is instantly taken. A Speech Biometric based attendance
system proposed by Subhadeep Dey et al. In that user accesses the system by making a call from few
pre-decided mobile phones. And this whole process is conducted by an interactive voice response (IVR)
system.
Advantages: Use of biometric scanning way is definitely faster and better than the traditional one, as
biometrics can uniquely identify a person.
Disadvantages: The biometrics of a person can easily be forged. Hence, this system is not very secure.

Title: Automatic Students Attendance Marking System Using Image Processing
Authors: Kaneez Laila Bhatti, Laraib Mughal, Faheem Yar Khuhawar, Sheeraz Ahmed Memon.
There are so many recent works done by many researchers in the area of ‘Automatic attendance
marking systems’.Sovitkar and Kawathekar used the Viola Jones algorithm for detection of the faces.
For features election, they used algorithms such as LDA, PCA and hybrid approach using both of these
with SVM as a classifier. They created dataset using different facial expressions, poses and lighting
conditions. Average rate of recognition with the combination of all algorithms showed is 95%.There is
decrease in the recognition rate as persons to be identified increases. Dmello et al. proposed an
attendance management system based on detection and recognition of student’s faces present in a class
and mark recognized students’ attendance automatically. They used IOT cameras to capture the student’s
faces. CNN, along with SVM classifier is used for face recognition. The system gives an accuracy of
94%.
Advantages: The methods illustrated in the paper increase the accuracy of the face recognition
technique and hence increase the reliability of the system.
Disadvantages: There are multiple algorithms used in a single system, which makes the programming
par complex and difficult to debug.

1 12
ADVANTAGES

 Fast and secure attendance marking system.

 More accurate than the traditional methods.

 Easy to install and implement.

1 13
DISADVANTAGES

 The accuracy of the system depends upon the quality of hardware used.

 Problems with the angle or lighting conditions may interfere with the recognition of faces.

 Some faces may go recognized if there are too many students in a single photo.

APPLICATIONS

 Schools and Universities.

 Security and Access Control.

 Special Events Attendance.

 Health Monitoring.

 Visitor Management.

 Dormitory Access Control.

CONCLUSION

We came to realize that there are extensive variety of methods, for example, biometric, RFID
based and so on which are tedious and non-productive. So to defeat this above framework this is the
better and solid arrangement from each keen of time and security. Hence we have accomplished to
build up a solid and productive participation framework to actualize an image handling algorithm to
identify faces in classroom and to perceive the confronts to check the attendance.

This system introduces the efficient and accurate method of attendance in the classroom
environment that can replace the old manual method. This method is secure enough, reliable and
available for installing the system in the classroom. It can be constructed using a camera and
computer.
