1. Groove the pipe ends according to the manufacturer’s specification, project specification and
consultant's approval
2. Pipe must be free from indentations, projections or roll marks on exterior from the ends to the
groove, to assure a leak tight seat for the gasket.
3. Place gasket over pipe ends, being sure gasket lip does not overhang pipe end
4. Align and bring 2 pipe ends together and slide gasket into position centred between the grooves on
each pipe .No portion of the gasket should extending to the groove on either pipe.
5. Loosely assemble all segments leaving one nut and bolt off to allow for "swing-over" feature.
6. With 1 nut and 1 bolt removed, use the “swing-over" feature to position housings over gasket and
into the grooves on both pipes.
7. Insert the remaining bolt to allow easy tightening of the nut .Be sure track head engages into
housing recess.
8. Tighten nuts alternately and equally maintaining metal-to-metal contact at the angle bolt pads.
9. Tighten securely to assure a rigid joint.

manufacturer.
• Ensure the bolts are used for fixing the tray & trunking on the channel
• Lower the cable tray up to the required location. Position & tighten the supports to firmly
hold tray to finalize the level.
1. Check and ensure that the installations are complete in the fire Pump room as per approved
drawings.
2. Check and ensure that necessary wiring between fire pumps and controllers are completed.
3. Check and ensure the incoming cabling completed for all three fire pump panel as per requirement.
4. Check and ensure the foundation bolts are properly tightened.
5. Check all the bolts installed in the pipelines and valves are tightened properly.
6. Check and ensure necessary pressures gauges are installed.
7. Check and ensure adequate lighting and ventilations are available at site.
8. Check and ensure water and diesel are filled in the respective tanks.
9. Check and ensure the alignment of the pumps.
10. Check the necessary safety requirements are complied.
11. Ensure the batteries are fully charged and the engine filled with required oil and coolant.
Commissioning/Test Procedures
1. Confirm the availability of power in each panel and ensure the Panel Isolators are in off position.
2. Open the tank isolation valve and suction valves and ensure there is no leak in the system.
3. Ensure all the discharge valves and drain valves are closed.
4. Switch on the jockey isolator. Ensure the pump rotation by keep the selector switch in hand mode.
5. Run the pump and pressurize the discharge header and ensure no leak.
6. With pressurised header adjust the pressure settings for Sequence of operation of jockey, electric
and diesel pumps for pumps
7. After successful completion of sequence test, switch off the jockey pump.
8. Switch on the isolator of electric and diesel pumps individually and take necessary reading like flow,
pressure, volt, amp and temperature.
9. After completion of the test disconnect the isolators and close the valves.
10. The controllers should be checked for automatic and manual starts as per NFPA requirements.
Note: It should be noted that all fire pumps are independent of each other and are not interlinked; their
operation is dependent on the pressure within the system. It is possible for all the pumps to be running
simultaneously. It should be noted that in the ‘NORMAL” course of events only one fire pump would be
running at any one time.

Note: Jockey pump Simulate pressure drop in the system by open the drain line installed in the sensing line.
Allow the jockey pump to start and once the pressure has reached the cut out pressure the pump will stop
running. Note the “cut in” and “cut out” pressure settings. Close the jockey pump drain. Jockey pump
operation will revert to normal operation.
Note: Duty pump/Electric pump Keep the jockey pump in auto mode and simulate pressure drop in the
system by open the drain line installed in the sensing line. First jockey will start as per sequence. Continue
further pressure drop until the duty pump to start. Once the pressure has reached the cut out pressure the
pump will run for 10 minutes (RPT) and goes off automatically or can be off manually. Note the “cut in” and
“cut out” pressure settings. Close the duty pump drain. Duty pump operation will revert to normal
operation.
Note: Diesel pump/Standby pump Keep the jockey and Electric pump in auto mode and simulate pressure
drop in the system by open the drain line installed in the sensing line. First jockey will start as per sequence.
Continue further pressure drop until the duty pump & diesel pumps start as per sequence. The standby
(diesel) pump never stop automatically even started by auto or manual. It should be switched off manually.
Note the “cut in” and “cut out” pressure settings. Close the standby pump drain. Standby pump operation
will revert to normal operation.
Note: fire pumps controllers. 1. Start the pump by reducing the system pressure using drain valve to verify
the automatic start of the pump. 2. Start the pump manually using push button on the controller. 3. Each
time when the electric pump started automatically or manually, it should be allowed to run for at least 5
minutes. 4. Start the engine driven pump using each set of batteries.
