• Passive Voice merupakan kalimat pasif dalam bahasa Indonesia.
Contoh : Andi melempar bola (Aktif) Andi throw the ball (active) Bola dilempar Andi (Pasif) the ball is thrown by Andi (passive)
• Passive voice merupakan bentuk kalimat dimana subjek kalimat menerima aksi, bukan melakukan aksi. Tidak seperti kalimat aktif yang fokus pada pelaku tindakan, kalimat pasif lebih berfokus pada pihak atau objek yang menerima hasil dari suatu aksi tersebut (penerima tindakan) • Bila pada kalimat aktif subjek kalimat (orang) melakukan pekerjaan, sedangkan dalam kalimat pasif, subjek kalimat bukanlah pelaku pekerjaan melainkan objek. (Seseorang mengetuk pintumu semalam.) Pasif : Your door was knocked on last night. (Pintumu diketuk semalam.)
2. Passive voice digunakan ketika doer of action tidak penting utk
disebutkan (misalnya karena pelaku aksi tersebut sudah jelas atau bisa ditebak atau merujuk kepada orang secara umum). Aktif : You can view the final results on the internet. (Kamu dapat melihat hasil-akhirnya di internet.) Pasif : The final results can be viewed on the web. (Hasil akhirnya dapat dilihat di internet.) Penggunaan Passive Voice 3. Passive voice digunakan untuk memberi penekanan pada object. Aktif : Sunmark Press published The Enzyme Factor at the first time in 2005. (Sunmark Press mempublikasikan The Enzyme Factor pertama kali di tahun 2005.) Pasif : The Enzyme Factor was published at the first time in 2005 by Sunmark Press. 4. Passive voice digunakan sebagai variasi pada tulisan (misalnya
pelaku aksi telah disebutkan pada kalimat sebelumnya).
Aktif : The investigators knew that she had returned to Indonesia. They arrested her yesterday. (Para penyelidik tahu bahwa dia telah kembali ke Indonesia. Mereka menahannya kemarin.) Pasif : The investigators knew that she had returned to Indonesia. She was arrested yesterday. (Para penyelidik tahu bahwa dia telah kembali ke Indonesia. Dia ditahan kemarin.)
