ECE 4216: STRUCTURAL DESIGN II

Assignment Tasks.
1. A reinforced concrete beam has an overall depth of 500 mm and a width of 300 mm.
The beam is simply supported on 200 mm wide walls and spans 6 m. The beam is
exposed to mild conditions. The beam is to carry an imposed load of 25 kN/m and a
dead load of 15 kN/m (including self-weight). Assume fck =30 N/mm2, fyk = 460 N/mm2,
and fvk = 250 N/mm2, and design the beam together with the shear reinforcement.
2. A simply supported rectangular beam of 8 m span carries a uniformly distributed dead
load which includes an allowance for self-weight of 7 kN/m and an imposed load of 5
kN/m. The breadth of the beam is 250 mm. Find the depth and steel area when the depth
to the neutral axis is one-half the effective depth. Assume fck =30 N/mm2, fyk = 500
N/mm2.
3. The T-Section shown below is required to resist an ultimate moment of 300kN.m.
Determine the area of bending moment required using fck = 30 N/mm² and fyk = 500
N/mm².
