Adult BLS Algorithm Infant BLS Algorithm

Unresponsive Patient? 1 Rescuer


No breathing or no normal breathing (i.e., only gasping)
30 Compressions: 2 Breaths
2 Rescuers
Activate Emergency Response System, Get AED/Defibrillator
Or send a second rescuer (if possible) to do this. 15 Compressions: 2 Breaths

Definite Pulse High-quality CPR


Check pulse:  Rate 100/min.
Definite pulse within 10 seconds?  Depth 4 cm/ 1.5 inches.
Give 1 breath every 5 to 6 sec.  Allow complete chest recoil.
No Pulse Recheck pulse every 2 minutes.  Minimize interruption.
 Avoid excessive ventilation.
Begin 5 cycles of 30
compressions and 2 breaths.

AED/Defibrillator ARRIVES Automated External Defibrillator (AED)


Shockable Non-Shockable
. .  Switch the AED ON.
Give 1 shock Resume CPR immediately for  Device will instruct you, listen carefully!
Resume CPR immediately for 2 2 minutes.  Expose the chest, Apply pads to chest.
minutes. Check rhythm every 2 minutes.  AED will analyze heart rhythm and decide whether rhythm is shockable
or non-shockable.
 If shock advised shout “ALL CLEAR”
 Press the SHOCK button.

Assess severity
Sit With Infant in Your Lap.

Support the infants head and jaw with your hand, support rest of infant’s Airway obstruction Airway obstruction
