I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION
The LAC Session dated October 18, 2021 at around 9 in the morning, started
with a prayer through an Audio-Video Presentation, singing of a Nationalistic Song
and an energizer participated by all the LAC Members. Then, LAC session proper
started with a powerpoint presentation of the topic and the objective of the session by
the third LAC Facilitator, Mrs. Leah S. Rubillos. She stated the topic to be discussed:
“Item Analysis” with session objectives: Define Item Analysis, Learn on how to
compute for the difficulty index and discrimination index.
After which, Mrs. Rubillos discussed the topic by giving the meaning of the
word Item Analysis and its purpose. She also discussed the preliminary steps in
doing Item Analysis which are: 1.) Rank the scores of the students from the highest
score to the lowest score. 2.) Select the top 27% performing group and bottom 27%
performing group from the total takers; 3.) Set aside the remaining 46% because they
will not be used for item analysis. 4) Tabulate the number of students in the upper
group and lower group based on their selected choice per item. She also discussed
the 3 Criteria in Determining the Desirability of an item which are: 1) The difficulty of
an item (Di) which pertains to the proportion of the number of the students in the
upper and lower groups who answered an item correctly. The lower the difficulty
index, the higher is its level of difficulty. She also emphasized that the desired index
of difficulty must not be lower than 0.80. She also discussed the process of solving
the difficulty index (Di); 2) Discriminating power of an item (Ds) is the difference of
the proportion on the “correct responses” between the students in the upper group
(UG) and the proportion of the students in the lower group (LG). She also discussed
the formula and the process of computing the discrimination index; 3) Effectives of
alternatives determines whether distracters (incorrect but plausible options) were
effective/ineffective in a particular item.
The School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) went well and everything was done
successfully which ended at around 12 PM.
No major problem was encountered during the conduct of the session since
all participants were participative enough to share their ideas and thoughts regarding
the said topic.
