Understanding Graphs

This is a series of exercises which you can give your students (upper primary school level). It
will help them to understand and draw simple line graphs. Level 1 is easy and it increases in
levels of difficulty up to level 5, being the most difficult. Make sure your students do all the
exercises. It will also help you understand the level in which your students have difficulties.

Level 1
1. Fill in the table with any pairs of values of x and y from the graph below.
(The smallest division on both axes is 0.5)

3. In the space below, draw a table containing at least 3 pairs of values of x and y taken
from the graph.
(The smallest division on both axes is 0.1)

4. In the space below, draw a table containing at least 3 pairs of values of x and y taken
from the graph.
(Smallest division on x-axis: 0.2
Smallest division on y-axis: 0.05)

5. In the space below, draw a table containing at least 3 pairs of values of x and y taken
from the graph.
(Smallest division on x-axis: 0.05
Smallest division on y-axis: 0.2)

Level 2
1. Adam is walking from his house to the library, which is 500 meters away. Fill in the
table with the distances Adam has walked from his house in a certain number of
minutes. One row has already been filled.

2. En. Ah Kow is going on a day trip. He’s brought his phone, which has full battery
when he starts his trip. Fill in the table with values of En. Rizal’s phone battery and
the hours he spends on the trip. One row has already been filled.

3. Pn. Selvi is delivering orders from Store G to five houses: A, B, C, D and E. She travels
a total of 700 meters in 60 minutes. Complete the table showing the distance Pn.
Selvi travels between each point and the time she takes for travelling. One row has
already been filled.
(Note: The horizontal lines mean that she is not moving for that duration)

Time taken to travel Distance between the

4. A bus from Shah Alam is travelling to Kuantan, which is 300 kilometres away. The bus
makes two stops along the way at A and B. From the graph determine how long, in
minutes, the bus stops at A and B respectively (1 hour = 60 minutes)

5. Alex receives RM10 each week as pocket money. At the end of each week, he puts
any remaining pocket money into his savings. Draw a table showing how much
money he puts into his saving each week for 6 weeks. Data for the first week has
already been plotted.

2. Ah Kow is tracking her weekly spending in the form of a graph. She has written down
how much she has spent each week for four weeks in the table below. Plot the graph
