Application Fee

MODE OF PAYMENT
Candidates may pay the application fee through any of the following modes. When the fee is
paid, please upload the receipt on the online admission portal to complete the application.

Supporting documents required with application form
Upload copy of CNIC and paid fee voucher as proof of payment. The drop down list of required
documents will appear on the screen while filling the online application form.
Internship
Candidates shortlisted for interviews will be required to submit hard copies of the following
documents through a reliable courier by September 17, 2024:
The documents that remain pending must be submitted by December 16, 2024, to the HR Office, if
selected into the programme.
Residency
Candidates shortlisted for interviews will be required to submit hard copies of the following

Admission Test
Applications will be scrutinised; candidates meeting the eligibility criteria will be invited to write the
admission test for the Internship & Residency Programmes to be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024
simultaneously in Karachi, Hyderabad and Islamabad. This test will be used to shortlist candidates
for interviews in internship and all residency programmes. Candidates should report for the test at the
time and venue stated on the Admit Card.
Candidates from outside Karachi, will not be paid TA/DA to attempt the admission test or attend
interviews.

Appointment Contract
Initial appointment will be for a period of one year, renewable and subject to evaluation by faculty.
Accommodation
All postgraduate trainees are provided accommodation only during on-call duties.
Limited living accommodation is also available for male and female postgraduate trainees on a 'first-
come first-served basis'. AKU does not take the responsibility of providing accommodation to all
candidates. It is subject to availability.
Outstation Allowance
Trainees from outside Karachi will be provided a living out allowance of Rs. 10,000 per month.

Information for Applicants
Admission Test Centre
Applicants should indicate one centre of their choice in the space provided in the application form.
The time and venue of the test centres will be indicated on the admit card. In case candidates do not
receive admit cards a week before the test; candidates must email pgme.admissions@aku.edu for the
required information and application details.
Please note: To be allowed into the Test Centre to write the Test, candidates must bring:
• A hard copy of the admit card issued by AKU AND
• A valid current photo ID card/original CNIC for identification.
Without these documents, AKU reserves the right not to allow you to write the Test.
Discipline
The University expects honesty from applicants. Dishonest behaviour during the test or violation of
instructions given by the examiner will result in irrevocable disqualification of the applicant from the
selection process.
Test structure
The duration of the test is 2 hours. The test paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions (70
questions from Medical Sciences & 30 from English language) and all questions are compulsory.
Applicants are advised not to guess answers. Each correct answer receives one point. Omitted
questions do not get any points. There is no negative marking.

Medicine & Allied Test Paper
Adult Cardiology, Clinical Haematology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology,
Nephrology, Neurology, Paediatrics & Child Health, Pulmonary Medicine
The University has not authorised any publication or preparatory classes for this test.
Answer sheet
The test will be answered on a single, printed answer sheet, which is scored by a computer. All
answers must be marked with pencil. The answer sheet is extremely sensitive. Be absolutely sure
before marking an answer and make a dark mark. If you wish to change the answer, erase it completely
and then make a new mark. If the computer reads two marks, it will record a zero.
At the beginning of the test, you will be asked to fill-in your name and application number on the answer
sheet. An example is shown below:
For every question, there are 4/5 choices and only one correct answer.
To mark the answer sheet, darken the appropriate box with the pencil provided. For example, if ‘C’
is the correct answer, it should be marked:

Sample questions
Q. A 5-year-old boy is brought by the parents with a one-day history of limp. The child has
been having flu-like symptoms for the previous week. On examination, the child looks
unwell with a temperature of 39oC. There is fullness in the left hip region and the child
resists attempted motion of the hip.

Q. A 20-year-old male is brought to the hospital after a road traffic accident in which he
suffered multiple musculoskeletal injuries. Two days later he develops low urine output
and is found to have an elevated creatinine. Urine dipstick is positive for large amount of
hemoglobin. Urine microscopy is negative for WBC or RBC; few casts are also seen.
Ultrasound abdomen is reported normal.
