Most of the part of publication is based on the pattern of questions people select for Olympiads, Talent
Search Examinations and other competitive examinations of similar nature. This publication also introduces a
person with some apprehensions of Critical thinking.
This Workbook and Reference Book is dedicated to the parents of the fellow school going students.

Foreword
Mathematics deals with some fundamental aspects related to time and space. We all learn
different rules and related operations starting from our elementary stage of schooling. Different
students take the subject differently as per their interest and willingness. Some students calculate
values with adequate speed and some other students do the same with lot of difficulties. We also
point out the development of fear related to Mathematics in the mind of some of the fellow
students.
We cannot analyse the possible reasons of the development of such fear in the mind of
students. This development cannot be generalised. It is not developed in the minds of all the fellow
students. Things often become difficult when our fellow ward fail to correlate the linkages of real
life problems with that of mathematical ones. It is the main reason of the lack of proper
orientation in the process of the development of mathematical skills. A skilful student can
correlate both the aspects of mathematics and real life problems with much efficiency.

The Curriculum
Following thematic areas will be covered in this workbook:
1. Integers
2. Rational Numbers, Fractions and Decimals
3. Data Handling
4. Simple Equation
5. Lines and Angles
6. The Triangle and its Properties
7. Congruence of Triangles
8. Practical Geometry
9. Perimeter and Area
10. Algebraic Expressions
11. Exponents and Powers
12. Symmetry
13. Solid Shapes
14. Mean, Median and Mode
This book is for aspirants looking for some more practices to enhance their
mathematical skills and competence. It can be used only after completing the text
books and reference books recommended by the school of the fellow learner. This
book accommodates all possible streams of curriculum prescribed for the students
belonging to the age group of 11 to 13 years. It can even help them in gaining skills
of tackling composite mathematical problems duly coined for addressing more
than three and more basic skills.
Answers of individual problems are not included in this booklet. There
exists a separate collection for fulfilling such purposes. Due to this reason this
handbook can be used by teachers and fellow parents for assessing achievement
levels of their aspirants.
This handbook provides ample scope of skill enhancement through offering series
of test materials in which aspirants have to use more than one skills at a time. It
will also improve the ability to think and work out own strategies of resolving
mathematical problems.
There are mathematical problems which require knowledge of more than one
thematic areas. Such problems are incorporated in the collections of Composite
worksheets. In this workbook such composite worksheets are more in number.
For all students it would be better if they acquire such skills in advance before
moving through the composite worksheets.
Acknowledgments
All the team members of the project work contributed a lot during designing the contents and
cover for this book. They also exhibited their much concern about development and compilation of
various mathematical problems. They also minimised the daily expenditure upon the systematic
works of the fellow workers and contributors.

Here Begins
The curriculum recommended by CBSE and ICSE are on the same format like those
developed and implemented by different state level educational organisations. After integrating all
such streams a common core of the curriculum is duly obtained for making the book a widely
applicable one. Some of the mathematical problems are from past test papers. In some papers
there may remain some questions of identical format. All such questions will be addressed only
after proper understanding of the relevant theories.
Some of inter related areas are converged to bring compactness in the representation of
the content areas. There may exist some types of questions in more than two places with an
aspiration of exhibiting its composite nature.
Before moving through the collection of worksheets and related fields of activities it is
recommended for all the students that one should go through the content areas duly provided by
the authority of examinations.
After such thorough practices one can opt for the composite worksheets with some
easiness.
1. Number System
We can represent any number in different ways as per our need. It may
be in the form of simple countable numbers, in the form of signed integers or
may be in the form of parts of a whole. Some of the common representations
that generally discussed at school level are as follows.
1.1 Integers
All the positive and negative numbers along with zero are called Integers.
Value of integers increase when we move from lift to right on a number line.
During our shift from right to left the value of integer goes down. The
greatest negative integer is -1 and the smallest positive integer is +1.
1 1 1 1
= 0.5; = 0.25 ; = 0.125 ; = 0.333 … . ;
2 4 8 3
9 3 4
1.934 = 1 + + + ;
10 100 1000
Similarly:
1. 1232.4054 =
2. 1043,546 =
21 132 4321
3. + + = __________
100 1000 10000
11 12 11 13 12
4. 𝑋 𝑋 𝑋 𝑋 =
144 121 139 125 25
1.4 Exponents
125 = 5 X 5 X 5 = 53 .
1. am X bm = (ab)m
2. am X an = (a)m+n
3. am ÷ an = (a)m-n

2.1 Ratios
2.2 Proportions
Example: In one day you earn Rs. 375 for 8 hours of work. If you work 37.5
hours for the week, what will your weekly earning?
Solution: Let the person will earn Rs. x in a week.
8 hours Rs.375
=
37.5 hours x
or 8x = 75 × 37.5
or 8x = 2812.5
or x = 2812.5
therefore, the person will warn Rs. 2812.5 in a week.

3. Lines and Angles
Any straight geometrical shape having no endpoint is called a line. It
can be extended endlessly on both the directions. Two rays join at a definite
point to form an angle. A line cannot be measured perfectly, but a line
segment can be measured perfectly.
A line can be extended endlessly in both the directions. A ray can be
extended in any one direction. A line segment is of a definite length. Two rays
join to form an angle.
Different angles are formed on the basis of their magnitude. Smallest
angle is of magnitude zero degree. Measure of a complete angle is 3600.

Triangles are classified on the basis of their sides and angles. Isoscles
