 With the world changing and more and more people using the internet for work, school, and
research, it’s becoming more important than ever for people to implement cyber security.
“Common trajectories suggest further and significant expansion over the coming years” (Quince
Market Insights, 2024). Based on this research it’s clear that the internet is not going anywhere
and everyone needs to implement safer ways in which they can utilize the internet. With this
technology being available on the market it’s available to everyone. Some of these people may
be criminals that would use this technology for harm rather than protection. While it may protect
people from being attacked on the internet, it could also protect the criminals from being
exposed. Research suggests that cyber security is no different than your average security.
Cybersecurity is very much needed in todays society regardless of who may have access to it.

Cybersecurity safeguards all different types of data against theft and loss. Our personal
information is just that, personal. Nobody’s wants their private information falling into anyone’s
possession that is not their own. Because in today’s society that is a possibility without the
proper protection, cybersecurity is needed for those that want to protect their personal business.
It is possible for information to be violated by those other than just common criminals. “Whether
it is accidentally or with malicious intent. This can be done by previous employees, third/party
vendors, or trusted partners” (Ganguly, 2023). Previous employees can be a large problem
especially those which left the company on bad terms. They may try to access and leak company
information, look through secure personnel files, or delete crucial information. Trusted partners
may accidentally violate others privacy by looking through information that is not meant for
them to see. With evidence that cybersecurity protects millions of people every year from online
threats, it’s clear that it’s a crucial tool everyone with the ability to should utilize.

With the expansion of technology and the internet, different types of cybercrimes have
expanded right along side it. As the internet advances, it’s give more opportunities to criminals to
take advantage of those who are vulnerable and at risk. One example of these such cybercrimes
includes “Phishing: using fake email messages to get personal information from internet users
(Ministerie, 2023). Phishing can distribute malicious links or attachments that can extract login
credentials, account numbers, and other personal information from victims. Other examples
include misusing personal information which could lead to identity theft, hacking which involves
shutting down or misusing websites and computer networks, and spreading hate and inciting
terrorism. All of these are very dangerous crimes and serious offenses. Identify theft is a very
common and serious crime. Once someone obtains your personal information such as logins and
passwords, social security number, and banking information, they can pose as you and destroy
your credit and drain your bank accounts. In some cases even commit other crimes in your name.
Hacking is very serious and poses great risk for companies bother large and small. If a company
is hacked private information from clients or users could be leaked on the internet or sold to
those who intent to use that information for harm. Hacking is also a danger to those with social
media accounts because someone can infiltrate your account and pretend to be you. While
pretending to be you they could scam your friends and family for money or even post vulgar
things making other things it is you.
 There are those that argue against people utilizing cybersecurity because they fear it may
further aid criminals in their cybercrimes. Criminals can utilize cybersecurity to remain
anonymous while they exploit people who go unprotected on the internet. This is another reason
that it’s important to be protected when surfing the web. If those who seek to do you ill will
possess these tools then you yourself should be equipped with the proper tools to protect
yourself. Those that utilize cybersecurity are more protected from cybercrimes than those who do
not utilize it. Having cybersecurity discourages criminals from attacking you and it protects all of
your private and personal information. The more people that are protected against these attacks
the more it discourages those who may attempt to attack the vulnerable. It makes the attempts of
cybercriminals much harder when more of those they come in contact with are protected by these
types of software. For example something as simple antivirus software can prevent you from
being attacked while surfing the web for news or research. There are many types of cybersecurity
you may utilize to protect yourself when searching the web. Some of these tools include cloud
security, network security, and data security. “Cloud security focuses on protecting cloud-based
assets and services, including applications, data, and infrastructure”(Sailpoint, 2023)

Criminals are not going away so it’s very important for citizens to take the proper precautions
in order to protect themselves. To alleviate the global cybercrime problem it’s important that as
many people as possible gain access to different cyber security tools and use them to protect
themselves and their data from criminals. If no one had cyber security, then no one would be
protected from different cybercrimes such as identity theft, ransomware attack, and internet
fraud. Without the proper precautions and tools you leave yourself exposed to these attacks and
many more just like it or some that are even worse. We all deserve to feel safe and have peace of
mind in our own homes. Cybersecurity gives us that extra layer of security so we don’t have to
worry about being attacked by criminals and other who intent to do us harm. Based on all of this
research I’ve come to the conclusion that it is imperative that every citizen obtain a substantial
form of cybersecurity. Although criminals may utilize it as well, it makes no sense to leave
yourself vulnerable to these attacks just because you do not agree with others who may have
access to these tools as well. Cybercrimes are all too common in todays time so in order to keep
yourself and your data safe you need to take the proper precautions to protect against
cybercriminals.
