Module-1

Tutorial -1
1. A 3.2 cm long line represents a length of 4 meters. Extend this line to measure lengths upto 25
meters and show on it units of meter and 5 meters. Show the length of 17 meters on this scale.
2. In a map of Bhopal, a distance of 36km between two localities in shown by a line of 45 cm long.
Calculate the RF and contract a plain scale to read kilometer and hectometer. Show a length of
9.3 km if maximum length is 10 km.
3. The distance between two cities A and B is 300 kilometers; its equivalent distance on the map
measures only 6 cm. What is the R.F. Draw a diagonal scale to show hundreds of kilometers, tens
of kilometers and kilometers. Indicate on the scale, the following distances: 525 km, 313 km and
258 km.
4. The area of field is 50000 m2. The length and the breadth of the field, on the map is 10 cm and 8
cm respectively. Construct a diagonal scale which can read upto one metre, Mark the length of
235 metre on the scale. What is the RF of the Scale?
5. Construct a scale of RF = 1:27 showing yard, feet and inches, and long enough to measure upto 6
yard. Show a length of 5 yard, 2 feet and 9 inches on your scale.
6. A rectangular plot of land area 0.45 hectare is represented on a map by a similar rectangle of 5
square cms. Calculate the R.F. of the scale of the map. Also draw a scale to read up to single
meter from the map. The scale should be long enough to measure up to 400 meters. 1 hectare =
10,000 square meters.
7. On a plan a line 22 cm long represents a distance of 440 meters. Draw a diagonal scale for the
plan to read upto single metre. Measure and mark a distance of 287 metres on the scale.
8. A rectangular plot of land measuring 1.28 hectares is represented on a map by a similar rectangle
of 8 cm2. Calculate R.F of the scale of the map. Draw a diagonal scale to read 1 m and long
enough to measure 600 m. Show a distance of 438 m on it.
9. To construct a vernier scale to read meters, decimeters and centimeters and long enough to
measure upto 6 meters when 1 meter is represented by 2.5 cm. Find RF and show on it a distance
of 4.33 meters.
10. To construct a vernier scale of RF 1/25 to read centimeters upto 4 meters and on it. Show length
2.39 meters and 0.91 meter.
