FEEDBACK
Noise is a form of a physical barrier which can be found in any environment where
communication is taking place. It is any random distraction which decreases the clarity of a
message and cannot allow us as people to effectively communicate.
For example, Loud background music playing in a club while an individual is talking on a
phone trying to communicate a message to someone else. This can prevent the person from
sending the message with accuracy as the loud background noise will be disturbing him to
communicate the message. however, the receiver will also be affected by the noise coming
from the club distracting him/her to hear exactly what the sender is saying, so therefore
there will not be any effective communication.
HEARING IMPAIRMENT
For example, a hearing-impaired person may not fully grasp all the details of what the
sender might have said loud and clear due to hearing loss.in this case there will not be any
effective communication as the receiver would have not heard fully what the sender might
have said which would result in not giving feedback.
STRESS
For example, an individual who is(overthinking)stressed about the math test he failed and
what his/her parents are going to say will not communicate effectively. The reason why I say
so is because his/her own thoughts will restrain him from being in the moment and thus
make it hard for him to communicate.
LANGUAGE DIFFERENCE
Language difference is a Linguistic barrier. This barrier occurs where there is a difference of
languages, technical terms or words of choice used between two people who are
communicating. This can affect effective communication as two people will not be able to
understand different languages or terms used to communicate.
For example, when a person from Russia goes to China, the Russian person will not be able
to understand Chinese and most of the people in china will not be able to understand the
Russian Language. So, in this case, effective communication is affected.
B. In each case, explain how the barrier can be minimized to ensure effective
communication.
NOISE
If an individual is within the club talking with a phone while background music is playing,
he/she can go outside of the club far from the noise to avoid distractions.
Another way of minimizing the noise barrier is that the sender should raise his/her voice
loud and clear in way which the receiver will be able to hear the content the sender is
communicating. However, this depends on how loud the noise is.
In a case where next house is a party and a group of students are at one of their friend’s
house to discuss an English assignment, they can minimize the noise coming from the party
by moving to a quiet place such as the library to ensure effective communication.
During an interpersonal communication, we can also minimize the noise by putting our
phones on silent to avoid instant message notifications or calls that might come in to
distract effective communication.
In an environment where there is traffic flow of cars making noise, people who resides in
that area should close the doors and the windows to minimize the distraction caused by the
cars to ensure effective communication.
HEARING IMPAIRMENT
Due to having problem with interpreting sounds, we can minimize this barrier by writing
down whatever we are trying to communicate to a hearing-impaired person.
We can also minimize this barrier by issuing out hearing aids that can support people who
are hearing impaired.
However, hearing impaired people may have the possibility to hear the voice but fail to
interpret the message, so to minimize this factor we are obligated to repeat ourselves until
we are clearly heard and understood.
STRESS
Meditation is the type of an exercise which helps with clearing one’s mind and being in the
moment. Taking deep breaths and grounding yourself can help to minimize stress and thus
allow people who are victims to cope well in interpersonal relationships for effective
communication.
Taking walks has proven to be very essential for the wellbeing of our minds. This can also be
highly effective to minimize stress and help us to function at our best so we can effectively
communicate.
Keeping a diary or a journal to write down your thoughts and your emotions can help to
alleviate those thoughts, caused by stress as you will be expressing them.
As we are communicating, we can minimize stress firstly by being aware of our thoughts and
how they affect our communication, then we can take control by letting go of those
counterproductive thoughts so we can focus in the moment and communicate.
Sense of humour plays an important role when it comes to our emotional health.so when
we are communicating, we should try to look for humour in many possible ways.it can help
to minimize stress and make it simple for us to engage in interpersonal Relationships.
LANGUAGE DIFFERENCE
In a workplace, some of the people like to use big words to make themselves sound clever.
We can minimize this barrier by using simple understandable language that people can
interpret.
When an individual is in a place where they are not speaking his language, he can minimize
this barrier by looking for someone who can interpret what he is trying to communicate to
the other person.
If south African doctors have been transferred to health organisations in France to further
their own careers, for them to communicate with France employees, they need to be taken
through the process of programmes that will train them to understand the France language
and different terms used within an organisation to communicate.
Some people understand better using visuals than they do with using language. within an
organisation, we can minimize this barrier by using pictures and diagrams to help people
with different cultural background understand what exactly is being communicated.
