Heraldry
Like a coat of arms, the colors, symbols, and arrangement
of visual stimuli all have meaning. For example, recognizing
a stop light requires a person to remember the meaning
of the colors, and know where to look to find the current
traffic signal. Another example of deriving meaning
from the attributes of visual stimuli includes identifying
medication by pill description. In this exercise, the user
will see a coat of arms and be asked to reconstruct it as
accurately as they can.
From memory, circle the items below that make up the design
of the mug. Keep in mind that you may use multiple icons and
colors.
Did you run into any challenges while switching your attention between
multiple tasks?
Driving and looking for traffic signals and signs can be an example of how
we look for meaning with visual stimuli. Can you describe an instance
when you had to perform tasks simultaneously that required both working
memory and attention?
How does the process of paying focused attention to visual details impact
your ability to store and recall images in working memory?
