Chapter 10: Human

development
3 pillars of human development

Ex: How does loneliness affect physical + cognitive D?

Cognitive: loneliness can increase negative way of thinking (depression)

Ppl who usually stay in home to avoid interaction with society → Pale skin,
bad health, ...

→ 3 pillars are closed together (change in 1 leads to change in the others)

D = link between the 3

Social development (Erik Erikson's model of identity)

Overcoming identity crisis at each stage helps achieve healthy personality

Stage 1:

If needs are met, child develops trust and security.

If not, child grows up mistrustful of the world and people around.

Stage 2:

If child can do sth on his own (sel-serving behaviours), child develops a

sense of accomplishment and responsibility

If child is overprotected or constantly discouraged, child doubts his ability

Stage 3:

Child learns to take initiative.

If supported by parents, child develops a sense of purpose and

responsibility.

If discouraged by parents, child feels guilty about initiating activities.

Kohlberg 's theory

Reasons are different when children get older
