Listening & Reading Feedback Forms
About
The OET Listening and Reading Feedback Forms are designed to help teachers pinpoint learners’
errors in these sub-tests and provide targeted feedback to help your learners improve on
weaknesses. Use it when providing feedback after learners have completed a sample test.
How to use
Each sub-test is broken down into its 3 parts. You can use the Listening and Reading forms
separately or together.
When providing feedback, tick the relevant column to indicate whether the question was answered
correctly or, if not, the cause of the error and the ‘Comments’ section to provide feedback to clarify
your choice. Use this feedback form to calculate a raw score out of 42 and provide rich, detailed
feedback for your learners but not to give them an indication of a test grade or numerical score.
At the end of the form, write your recommendations and instruct the learner to complete the self-
reflection.

You can download, print copies of the form, and fill it in manually.
Note: This feedback form is intended for use as a teaching tool, not for official assessment.

KEY | Listening - Part A
Spelling
Includes words common to both healthcare professionals and patients that would be expected to be
spelled correctly at a C1 level
Grammar
Includes incorrect verb endings, subject-verb agreement, third person reporting (i.e. the healthcare
professional would not write ‘my’ knee but ‘his/her’ knee) that would be expected to be recorded accurately
at a C1 level
Legibility
Includes indistinct answers e.g. lack of clarity between /r/ or /n/, /o/ or /a/, the word fades off into illegibility,
partial erasure of a previous answer interferes with clarity etc. also includes unclear answers e.g. if notes
candidates have made before listening are written above the answer line, which is the final answer?
Extra words
Includes repetition of words from the surrounding notes or more than one answer has been provided or
unnecessary words have been included e.g. non-medical qualifiers (a bit of…, pretty much…)
Selection
The answer is wrong perhaps because of misunderstanding of the gap/audio or because it’s a guess after
the audio has finished perhaps caused by failing to keep pace with the audio. This would be something to
discuss with the student as to which reason is most fitting*
Instructions
Includes answers that have not been selected as per the instructions e.g. more than one answer shaded,
answers ‘selected’ using a tick, cross or circle
Omission
Skipped question which could be from loss of focus or not keeping up with the audio and missing the
answer
Question
Includes answers that do not fit with the question e.g. information given by a different speaker to the one
included in the question or information not relating to the specific aspect covered by the question or the
answer is wrong perhaps because of misunderstanding of the question/audio or because it’s a guess after
the audio has finished perhaps caused by failing to keep pace with the audio. This would be something to
discuss with the student as to which reason is most fitting*
*Potential reasons students might choose from:
• Vocabulary
• Grammar
• Preparing to listen
• Focusing on questions
• Avoiding word matching
• Keeping up with speech at natural speed
