Impact Force Computation Rev 1 (FINAL)
Impact Force Computation Rev 1 (FINAL)
TOTAL WEIGHT OF WATER & RUBBER PLUG ASSY INCLUDING ADAPTOR PLATE
Aluminum(kg)
Tiger Bronze(kg)
Wood(current Design)
Shear Strength
Aluminum(psi)
Tiger Bronze(psi)
Wood(current Design)(PSI)
Area of adaptor plate that will bear the shearing once it collides to the 10-3/4
casing at 1000mtr free fall. (in^2)
Formula used:
Velocity (V) = gt
height (h) = 1/2 gt2
Impact Force (F) = 2mV/ t
Note: Impact force which material may encounter when collision occur
CONCLUSIONS
1. If the weight of water is included, the aluminum or bronze bottom plate cannot
withstand the impact force given that the current thickness of bottom plate is only
1.58 inches
2. The thickness of bottom plate should be at least be 2.83 inches to withstand the
impact force.
3. Based on computations, at 2.83 inches thick, the aluminum and tiger bronze
bottom plate shall shear at:
Aluminum(Will Shear at)(tons)
Tiger Bronze(Will Shear at)(tons)
4. If we will proceed with the test simulation, we can only test up to 100 tons.
