Basic Of Computing

1. What is a computer? Draw a block diagram to illustrate the basic organisation of a

computer system and explain the functions of various units-

➔ A computer is a system for programmed programming to execute arithmetic or

logical operations sequences. Modern computers may adopt widespread operation
sets, known as programs. These programs allow computers to carry out a number of
tasks.

Most computers are made of 3 parts, which are central CPU, input devices and
output devices. The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is again split into two parts: the ALU and
the control unit (CU). The instruction set is in raw data form.

2. What is an input device? Briefly describe varioius important input devices.

➔ An input device is an instrument used to supply a computer or information

equipment with data and control signals for an information processing system. The
input devices include keyboards, cursor, printers, cameras, joysticks, and
microphones, among other items.

3. Discuss two basic types of monitors CRT and LCD

➔ A flat-panel monitor or other electro-modulated optical instruments that uses liquid

crystal light module propensities combined with polarizing agents is a flat-panel
display. Liquid crystals do not actually emit light, but instead, produce colored or
monochrome pictures using a backlight or reflector.

A specialist vacuum tube (CRT), which creates images as an electron beam affects
the aphosphorous surface. A cathode rays tube (CRT) CRTs are used for most Laptop PC
displays. The "picture tube" of a TV receiver is the same as the CRT in a computer monitor.

4. What is a software? Discuss its various categories with the help of diagram.

➔ Computer software, or software alone, is a type of program that helps a person to

execute certain functions or run a computer. The machine guides all the peripheral
instruments – how and when to do a job. The role of mediator for user-computer
hardware is performed by PC applications. A consumer can't do any job on a digital
device without the use of apps.
➔ There are three aspects of a computer system: the hardware, applications, and users.
The program software and the device software can also be separated into mainly two
parts. Bare use is not easy so that it can be quickly generated by machines.

5. Distinguish between system and application software

6. Write Short Note on :-

a. Laser Printer

➔ Laser printing is a robotic printing technique that is electrostatic. It produces high

quality text and graphics (and photographs of moderate quality) by repeatedly
passing a laser beam across a negative loaded cylinder called a "drum" to identify a
differentially loaded image. This drum gathers electrically charged polished ink
(toner) and passes the image to paper that is then heated so that the print, pictures or
both are permanently fused to the paper. Laser printers utilize the xerographic
printing process as in optical photocopiers.

b. High Level Language

➔ BASIC: This language is commonly used and easy to read. Especially used in
earlier days on microcomputers.

COBOL: a basic language used for commercial applications. COBOL is a popular business-
oriented language.

FORTRAN (Translation Formula): structured for the solution of scientific and mathematical
issues. One of the science communities' most common languages.

C: Formal programming language used for all uses, such as scientific implementation,
creation of business applications, etc.

C++: Popular, general purpose, object-orientated programming language.

c. Compiler

➔ A compiler is a programming program that allows you to convert high-level machine

language source code. It converts the code in a single language without altering the
value of the code into any other language. In addition, the compiler allows the end
code to be tailored for runtime and memory space.

d. Plotter

➔ A plotter is a special type of output unit, but it does it differently than a printer.
Plotters are intended to create large sketches or photographs, such as construction
plans or mechanical object drawings.

A selection of colored types is part of a plotter in a clip rack and a robotic arm. The
instructions obtained by a plotter from a machine are in a color and the corners of start and
end for a line. The plotter takes the related pen through its brace, places the plotter down to
the surface of the paper on the first coordinates and sketches to the end coordinates. Plotters
draw curves by making a very short line series.

7. Write a note on Computer language and its classification

➔ A language of programming is a language of form with several guidelines which

generate different types of performance. In computer programming, programming
languages are used to apply algorithms. Many languages in programming are
machine commands.

Different Types of Computer Language:

1. High Level Language

2. Low Level Language
3. Machine Language

8. Write True Or False of the following :

a. Deleted Files or folders are stored in the recycle bin.

➔ True

b. Under Edit menu you can rename the file.

➔ False

c. Windows provides a quick and easy way to install new software.

➔ True
