General Instructions:
1. The question paper consists of 14 questions divided into 3 sections A, B, C.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Section A comprises of 6 questions of 2 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in two questions.
4. Section B comprises of 4 questions of 3 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in one question.
5. Section C comprises of 4 questions of 4 marks each. An internal choice has been provided in one question. It
contains two case study based questions.

SECTION A
1. The 4th term of an AP is zero. Prove that the 25th term of the AP is three times its 11th term.

the top the of the building and the angle of elevation of the length of the flagstaff from P is 45c. Find the length
of the flagstaff and distance of building from point P . [Take 3 = 1.732 ]

4. Solve the following quadratic equation for x :


4x2 − 4a2 x + ^a 4 − b 4h = 0

5. Solve the following quadratic equation for x :


x2 - 2ax - ^4b2 - a2h = 0

6. Find the mean of the following distribution :

7. The shadow of a tower at a time is three times as long as its shadow when the angle of elevation of the sun is 60c.
Find the angle of elevation of the sun at the of the longer shadow.

8. In given figure, two circles touch each other at the point C . Prove that the common tangent to the circles at C ,
bisects the common tangent at P and Q .

9. The sum of deviations of a set of values x1 , x2 , x3 , ............, xn , measured from 50 is - 10 and the sum of deviations
of the values from 46 is 70. Find the value of n and the mean.

to the inner circle.

13. Roshni being a plant lover decides to start a nursery. She bought few plants with pots. She placed the pots in such
a way that the number of pots in the first row is 2, in the second is 5, in the third row is 8 and so on.

Based on the above, answer the following questions:


(i) How many pots were placed in the 7 th row?
(ii) If Roshni wants to place 100 pots in total, then total number of rows formed in the arrangement will be

14. The boiler is essentially a closed vessel inside which water is stored. Fuel is burnt in a furnace and hot gasses
are produced. These hot gasses come in contact with water vessel where the heat of these hot gases transfer to
the water and consequently steam is produced in the boiler. Then this steam is piped to the turbine of thermal
power plant. There are many different types of boiler utilized for different purposes like running a production unit,
sanitizing some area, sterilizing equipment, to warm up the surroundings etc.

Rajesh has been given the task of designing a boiler for NTPC. Boiler consist of a cylindrical part in middle and
two hemispherical part at its both end. The cross section of boiler is given below. Length of cylindrical part is the
3 times of radius of hemispherical part.

(i) What is the ratio of volume to the surface area?


(ii) If r = 3 m , what is the volume of boiler?
