1 MONO PERC (545WP) 526.470 440

2 MONO PERC (545WP) 377.685 330

2. SYSTEM DESIGN
Overview
A grid connected solar system, essentially containing the following key elements:
 Solar PV panels to generate electricity
 Grid tied inverters that converts the DC power generated from the panels and feeds
the loads in the premises

Exception
The system is NOT a backup power system and therefore does not have any batteries for
storage of power. Hence, power generated during the day is fed directly to the connected
loads in conjunction with the existing conventional power sources - grid power.

3. SCOPE OF WORK
This section describes the key tasks Mitesh (Technical Advisor) propose to undertake based on
the following scope of work and our own experience of similar projects.

PHASE 1 – DESIGN AND DOCUMENTATION PREPARATION FOR PLN APPLICATION

Technical Advisor (TA) will review the PLN Application form as per ESDM regulation 2 of 2024,
electricity bill information, site plans and boundaries. In order to gather essential data for the
PLN application filing, a detailed design engineering of rooftop solar power plant will be
carried.
Following preparation will be carried out
 Complete Single Line Diagram (SLD) of solar power plant
 Detailed Bill of Quantity including makes and specifications
 Construction and Installation Application form filing as per Appendix II of ESDM 2 of
2024
 Form Annexures-Main components electrical datasheets and type test/standards
certifications
 Planning or study documents for rooftop solar power plant (excluding study or
planning related to factory electrical loads and parameters)

PHASE 2 – PROJECT PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT

TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY
If PLN approves the application provided in Phase 1, TA will visit the Morich 1 and 2 sites to
study the electrical system and site conditions and accordingly proceed further.
Technical Advisor (TA) will review the site information including site plans and boundaries. In
order to gather essential data for the technical feasibility, a site visit will be carried out. During
the site visit TA shall analyse the structural feasibility/strengthening and features of the roof
to assess the suitability of installation of solar PV plants, including:
 Space Availability of the Roof-top
 Slope of the roof
 Features of roof
 Near and far shading
 Horizon shading
 Potential for air pollutants (e.g. nearby factories or dust producing processes).
 Roof conditions, Dust and dirt accumulation (module soiling).
 Grid Connections and Power Evacuation.
 Constraints for development of solar PV plant.
 Current and previous roof use.
The site visit shall validate the roof boundaries and provide assessment inputs to the energy
yield estimation and quality information for subsequent technical requirements.
The site visit shall be carried out by TA along with a member of the Client and should take
place at an early stage in the technical feasibility studies.

Confidential Rooftop Solar PV Plant for PT MORICH INDO Page 3 of 15

TA shall review the structural drawings and structural arrangement to existing roof for
providing solar panels over existing AC Sheets or alternative suggestions based upon TA’s
experience.

ASSESSMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

TA will provide solar resource and environmental characteristics such as temperature, wind
speed, rainfall. This will be achieved using data derived from satellite imagery, weather
websites, solar irradiation databases or data from terrestrial meteorological stations.

SOLAR RESOURCE ANALYSIS

Solar irradiation data sources derived from satellite imagery and land based measurement of
working solar plant provided by client will be accessed and analysed to determine mean
global irradiation on the horizontal plane. The data will be screened by TA and the uncertainty
in the data will be assessed.
Following screening and uncertainty analysis, a solar resource data set will be judiciously
selected and used for the energy yield prediction. The data set will include a breakdown of
direct and diffuse irradiation.
TA typically use Meteonorm/ Solar GIS/ SWERA/ NASA data sources for assessment of the
solar resource. These data sources can provide long term data sets which enable an estimate
of inter-annual variation and uncertainty.

ASSESSMENT OF MODULE TECHNOLOGY

Different module technology options will be provided by TA for technology evaluation for the
proposed PV plant.
TA will review the PV module technology with regard to technical specification, quality
recognition and track record, existing experience of the supplier and the module supply
arrangements as well as the relevant international and national technical and safety standards
compliance certificates.

INVERTER SELECTION
Based on the initial constraints of the site and the layout characteristics, for energy yield
analysis, TA will advise on the inverters selection from a list of industry leading inverter
manufacturers with products suitable for a project of this size.

CONCEPTUAL PV PLANT LAYOUT AND CALCULATION OF SHADE

This is the creation of the collector layout to allow plant layout to be developed and optimised
based on orientation, inclination, effective usage area and local features (roads, buildings,
etc.). This will lead into the sizing aspects of the plant and energy yield analysis.
TA will provide a detailed conceptual layout indicating basic project components and may
communicate the rectifications, if any, to client.
An iterative process will be used to find the optimum initial design layout taking into account:
 Winter sun angle
 Operations and maintenance requirements
 Module cleaning strategy

Confidential Rooftop Solar PV Plant for PT MORICH INDO Page 4 of 15

 Slope
 Temperature and wind profiles of the site
 Cable runs and electrical loss minimisation

ENERGY YIELD ANALYSIS

An independent energy yield calculation will be carried out using information provided by the
Client and inputs gathered during site visit and desktop assessment studies conducted. The
estimate will include:
 Production forecasts (P50, P90) and annual degradation estimates (a mean estimate
and a range)
 Inter-annual variation and uncertainty levels shall be provided
 Estimates shall take into account site specific factors including the presence of dust,
dirt cover that may block the solar modules
 Full shading review of the PV generator including near and far shading
 Detailed losses
 PLF estimation of the plant based on Energy yields

ELECTRICAL CABLING
For the energy yields, a review of the requirements for DC and AC cabling will be made with
an electrical cable design and schedule prescribed by potential solar contractor. This shall
provide the approximate quantity of cabling required and initial cable routes from the
modules through to the substation.
An assessment of the allowable electrical losses will be made based on engineering best
practice for a project of this size.

MOUNTING SYSTEM OPTIONS

Fixed mounting systems will be assessed for various solar PV technology options and
examples chosen based on cover ratio and roof area requirements for respective technology.

CONTROL AND INSTRUMENTATION

The inverters generally come with a monitoring system, so this will be reviewed for suitability
and the requirements for its implementation.

POWER EVACUATION
The TA will work with the client on deciding the requirements for the interconnection to the
grid and the power evacuation scheme. The TA will specify general requirements based on
standard practice for such PV plants.

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF GRID CONNECTION

I have considerable expertise in the review, specification and assessment of electrical
performance requirements for renewable energy projects, for projects required to meet some
of the most stringent grid code conditions. This expertise will be focused on reviewing and
opining on the following key aspects of the Project:

 Grid connection strategy
 Connection points and capacity limitations
 Metering points and import/export meters

PROJECT START-UP AND FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The project start-up and functional requirements shall essentially consist of all the supply,
installation, testing and commissioning required to set up and operate a PV plant. TA, with the
inputs from client, civil and electrical contractor, will provide the brief review on important

The key operations and maintenance tasks will be assessed ensuring the design has provision
for suitable maintenance activities to take place. The availability of suitable resources (for
example water, manpower, and engineering) will be outlined. The outline budget cost review
of providing operation and maintenance will be determined using operational experience
from similar plants and scaled to the costs in India.
