Oh! Really?! I have here a short story

that is similar to your situation. Let us
find out how Elisa manages screen
time on her cellphone. Are you ready to "Yes, We are!"
listen to the story, Class?

The title is…. A WAKE UP CALL by

Ma. Melanie L. Padoninog
Now, We all know what Elisa did in the
story and how she uses her phone on
her time all day..

I have a statement here and identity

on the statement what it is all about…

Elisa is a simple girl who loves to stay

in her room all day. So, What element
of the story does this sentence show?

That's right! This statement is "Ma'am. it is a Character"

displayed as a character of the story.

not? accepted that apology”

D. Discussion

Stories have different parts called Characters

Elements of the Story. What are those? Setting
Conflict
Plot
Theme

Very good!

Today we will focus on the PLOT.

So, what is Plot?
A plot is a sequence of events that
describes what happens in a story and
why it happens.

There are 6 main parts within a Plot.

And let’s identify these parts in the
story of “A Wake Up Call”.

Now let’s start with the Exposition.

Exposition is an element of a plot that
introduces the character(s) and the
setting of the story.

Where is the Exposition in the story? “Elisa is a simple girl who loves to stay
in her room. She spends her time
playing with her cellphone. She only
gets out of her room when it is time to
eat. Her parents would usually scold
because of her attitude.”

Very Good! This is the part that

introduces the character of the story
which is Elisa.

Let’s proceed to Conflict.

Conflict does not only tell about the

problem in the story but also shows
how the character(s) struggles.
There are 5 types of conflict.
a. Character versus Character
b. Character versus Nature
c. Character versus Society
d. Character versus Themselves
e. Character versus Supernatural
Forces
What is the Conflict in the story?
Absolutely! It’s Character versus “Character versus Character”
Character.

Let’s proceed to Rising Action.

These are events that lead to climax.
This also increases the tension in the
story.

Where is Rising Action in the story? “Wait for a while, Mom”, Elisa answered.
I just need to finish this video,” she
added.
“How many hours will I wait for you,
Elisa? I need you right now!”, “For a
while mom! I just really need to finish
this”, answered Elisa.
That’s right! The tension is rising here.
Coming to the Climax.

Climax is the highest point of tension.

It’s the moment where the main conflict
of the story reaches its peak intensity.
So, what part in this story is the This angered mom. “If you will not get
Climax? out of your room in a minute, I will
confiscate your cell phone and I will not
return it to you anymore,” her mother
said.

Yes, that’s the Climax of the story!

Now, let’s proceed to the next part

which is the Falling Action.

It is an element when the tension

decreases and everything begins to
settle down.

Can you identify the Falling Action in Elisa quickly went out of her room and
the story? said, “I’m sorry, Mom. I had been
unhelpful to you. I promise I will not
spend most of my time watching
YouTube and playing Mobile Legends. I
hope you will forgive me.”

That’s right! It decreases the tension

when Elisa admits her mistake and
apologizes to her mother.

After that, we are now in the part of

Resolution.
It is when you discover what happens
to the characters after the conflict is
settled.

So what is the Resolution in the story? “It’s all right, Elisa. I just hope next time
you will be responsible enough in using
your gadgets. Remember that there is a
right time for that”, mom explained.
Very Good! The Resolution in the story
when her mother forgives Elisa and
tells her that she should be responsible
for using gadgets.

Well done, Class! It seems you already

know and you can identify the parts of
the plot in the stories.
E. Application

Now that you know the Elements of the

Plot, it is time for you to deepen your “Yes, Ma’am!”
understanding about it. Are you ready,
class?

Alright, Let’s try this activity. So I have

here a part of a story and this is not
arranged in the right order.

You're going to identify here where the

exposition, conflict, rising action,
climax, falling action, and resolution.

Raise your hand if you want to answer.

Go here to the front and take the letter
and put it in the right part of the story.

Do you understand? “Yes, Ma’am!”

Let's all read first

(Pupils read the part of a story and will

participate in this part,
They will raise their hands and answer
in front to identify the following.)
Now, Where do you think is the
exposition here?

A. Exposition

How did you say that this is the “Because it introduces the character of
exposition? the story, Maam.”
Very Good!
Next, Where do you think is the conflict
here?

Very Well! (additional informations)

B. Conflict

Next, Where do you think is the rising

action here?

C. Rising Action
How did you say that this is the Rising
action? It increases the tension in the story,
maam.
Excellent!

Next, Where do you think the climax

is?

Very Good! (Additional Informations)

D. Climax
Next, Where do you think the falling
action here is?

E. Falling Action

How did you say that this is the falling It decreases the tension and everything
action? begins to settle down.

Very well!

Lastly, it's obvious that the Resolution

is “Every time Mary sees beggars, she
shares whatever food there is in her
bag.”

This is where you discover what

happens to the characters after the
conflict is settled and also the end of
the story.

Great job class, you really understood it (Pupils Clapped)

and cooperated well. Give yourselves a
three claps (1,2,3 claps!)

F. Generalization

I know you’ve learned a lot today from (Pupils will participate in this part, they
today’s discussion, so again what are will raise their hands and give the
the elements of the plot? Anyone can answer.)
answer, just raise your hand.
Expected answer: “Exposition, conflict,
Very Good! rising action, climax, falling action,
resolution”

What is exposition? “Elements of a plot that introduce

characters and setting of the story.”

Very Good!
What’s the difference between the “Rising action is events that lead to a
rising action and falling action? climax and also increase the tension in
the story and Falling Action is an
element when the tension decreases
and everything begins to settle down.”
Very well!
What is the difference between conflict “Conflict adds suspense and excitement
and climax? to the story while Climax is having many
problems that create the high point of
the story.”

Excellent!
Last question, What is Resolution? “Resolution is when you discover what
happens to the characters after the
conflict is settled. It also tells the end of
the story.”

Excellent Class! I know you’ve gained a

lot of knowledge today and since you
seem to have learned a lot from our
lesson and ready to answer, Let’s
proceed with our activity.
