Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 6

I. Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:

A. Describes the Exponent and the Base in a Number Expressed in Exponential
Notation.
B. Collaborate with peers to complete tasks involving exponential notation.
C. Build confidence in their ability to understand and manipulate exponential
notation through practice and reinforcement.

II. Content: Describing the Exponent and the Base in a Number Expressed in
Exponential Notation.

III. Learning Resources

A. References: Curriculum Guide, Math G6 Q2 Module 6

B. Materials: Powerpoint, Cards, box, cartolina

IV. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Checking Attendance
4. Classroom Rules

B. Motivation
The teacher will play a background song while the students pass around the box
containing the problems that they will answer. Whoever the box turns to when the
music stops, he/she will answer.

Song: Math song tune in Top of the world.

C. Discussing new concept

The teacher will use the samples in motivation to

discuss the topic.

Base - which is the number used as a factor.

Exponent - which says how many times the base is used as a factor.
Exponential notation - short way of writing repeated multiplication having the
4
same factor. (ex: 3 )
- The exponent is placed at the upper right side of the base

4
3 is read as “3 to the fourth power”, “3 raised to the power of 4”

Oral Activity: 9 x 9
2x2x2x2x2

D. Application

Group Activity: Complete the table below.

The Teacher will form 4 groups and give them an activity about the topic. Each group
will be assigned to a specific problem using the Exponential Notation.

After answering the table, the groups must have 1 representative to present their
answers.

E. Generalization

What is base?
What is an exponent?
What do you call a short way of writing repeated multiplication having the same
factor?
Can you give me an example of Exponential Notation?

F. Evaluation

Directions: Read each item carefully. Then choose the letter of the correct answer.
Write the answers on your ¼ sheet of paper.
