1. You are provided with pendulum bob. Stopwatch / Clock, Thread, Meter rule, retort stand and clamp.
Proceeds follow. Set the apparatus as shown in figure 1

Bob

Figure 1

(a) Adjust the thread to length (L) of the pendulum to 100cm. set the bob into oscillations by displacing it

to a small angle and releasing it. Record the time (t) taken for 10 complete oscillations.

(b) Repeat (a) above for the length of the pendulum L = 80cm, 60cm, 40cm, and 20cm, record your results

in suitable table including periodic T and T2

(c) Plot a graph of T2 against L

(d) Determine the slope at your graph

(e) From the graph state the relationship between T and L

(f) Using the graph, find the time taken by the bob to oscillate when the length of the pendulum L = 50cm.

2. You are provided with an Ammeter A, Resistance box R, A key K, dry cell D and several connecting
wires. Proceed as follows:
Setup the apparatus as shown in figure 2 below.

R A

(a) Close the switch K and read the value of current I in ammeter when R = 1Ω

(b) Repeat the experiment in (a) above when the value of R= 2Ω, 3Ω, 4Ω and 5Ω.

(c) Tabulate the result for R, I and 1⁄𝐼

(d) Plot the graph of R against 1⁄𝐼

(e) Determine the slope of the graph

(f) If the graph obeys the equation of R= 𝐸⁄𝐼 - r

i. Suggest how E and r may be evaluated from your graph.

ii. Compute E

iii. Compute r

(g) State one source of errors and one way of minimizing it.

(h) Suggest the aim of this experiment.
