Reading
L. Read the text and for questions (1-5), choose the correct answer (A, B, or C).

10th June – Kakadu National Park

When you think of Australia, what usually comes to mind is the desert, the
blazing sun and kangaroos. Well, Kakadu National Park couldn’t be more
different.
This huge area of land – half the size of Switzerland – is located on the north
coast of the Northern Territory, and it’s got a tropical climate like its neighbours Indonesia and Papua New
Guinea. Apart from its stunning views of mountains and valleys, there is also lots of water: rivers, lakes,
waterfalls and swamps!
Right now, I’m staying on a campsite next to the Red Lily Billabong. ‘Billabong’ is the word they use in
Australia for a lake that is only fed by rain and so, it dries up in the dry season. In the wet season (October
to April) it’s hard to travel around a lot of the park, but now the weather’s dry and cool, and it’s gorgeous!
There’s still plenty of water though and I’ve been fishing every day.
However, you have to keep your eyes open, because Kakadu is home to the world’s largest reptile, the
saltwater crocodile! I’ve read all about them and I couldn’t wait to see one! They grow up to 6.5 or 7 metres
and can be dangerous, so you can’t fish too close to the edge of the water. I managed to get this great
picture of one of them out in the water. What do you think?
