Activity?
Yes, Sir!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
This is the instruction.
Everyone, please read.
Instruction: Match the terms in Column A
with their corresponding definition in
Column B by drawing a line to connect
them.
(The class would answer in chorus.)

(The class is expected to answer the

activity on the board.)

B. Motivation

So now, are you ready for our new lesson?

Yes, Sir!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
If you are ready, can you give me a 1
clap?
(Students will clap once.)
(Students will clap twice.)
(Students will clap thrice.)
It seems that you are ready for our new
lesson but before that let’s have a game.

Here are the mechanics.

Everyone, kindly read.

1. Several foods/snacks will be scattered
in the middle.
2. Then, the class will be split into 4
groups. Group 1 will be matched with
Group 2, while Group 3 will be matched
with Group 4. Each group must assign one
(1) representative.

3. The representatives must compete with
the representatives of the other group to
obtain various foods.
4. They should acquire as many foods as
possible. However, they must only obtain
one (1) variety of food. For example, if
there are two (2) Food E items, they
should only get one (1) Food E and allow
the other group to get the second one.
They can continue collecting as long as
they haven’t collected all kinds of foods.
5. Wait for the GO SIGNAL from the
teacher before starting to collect food.
6. The food obtained by the representative
will be shared with his/her group mates.
Group 1 and Group 2, be ready.

On the count of 3, you may begin

gathering foods/snacks.

1.. 2.. 3. GO!

(Students are expected to gather
foods/snacks.)
So now, group 1 and group 2, let's
illustrate the foods/snacks you've gotten
using the Venn diagram.
(Students are expected to illustrate the
food they have gotten using a Venn
diagram.)
Very good!

Next, Group 3 and Group 4, are you

ready?
Yes, Sir.
(Group 3 and group 4 would answer in
chorus.)
On the count of 3, you may begin
gathering foods/snacks.

1.. 2.. 3. GO!

C. Presentation

Our topic for today is all about the Union

and Intersection of an events.

So, are you ready to learn union and

intersection of events?
Yes, Sir!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
So just to add a little bit of fun, when I ask
“class?” instead of saying “Yes, Sir,”
kindly respond with “Rawr Rawr Rawr.”
Are you now ready to learn, class?
Rawr Rawr Rawr!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
Class?
Rawr Rawr Rawr!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
Class? Class?
Rawr Rawr Rawr! Rawr Rawr Rawr!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
Class? Class? Class? Class? Class?
Rawr Rawr Rawr! Rawr Rawr Rawr!
Rawr Rawr Rawr! Rawr Rawr Rawr!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
That’s great, let’s have a fun and exciting
lesson.

I’m going to show our objectives for today’s

lesson.

Everyone, kindly read our objective for

today.
At the end of the lesson, student must:

1. illustrate the union and intersection of

events;
2. solve problems involving union and
intersection of events; and
3. relate union and intersection of events to
the real-life situations.
Thank you, class.
Together let us meet those objectives.
Okay?
Okay, Sir!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
So, the first thing we need to do is to
define union and intersection.

UNIVERSITY VISION UNIVERSITY MISSION

A lead university in producing quality individuals with competent DHVSU commits itself to provide an environment conducive to continuous
capacities to generate knowledge and technology and enhance professional creation of knowledge and technology towards the transformation
practices for sustainable national and global competitiveness through of students into globally competitive professionals through

productivity functions.
Who wants to read the definition of
union? (Students will raise their hand.)

(Name of the student), kindly read it. Union is the blending of both sets. It
indicates with conjunction “or”.
The symbol of union is “∪”.
Thank you, (Name of the student).

How about intersection?

(Students will raise their hand.)
(Name of the student), kindly read it.
Intersection is when the two sets overlap.
It indicates with conjunction “and”. The
symbol of intersection is “∩”.
Thank you, (Name of the student).

Now, let us see what the difference

between union of events and intersection
of events is.

(Name of the student), would you mind

to read the definition of union of events.
Union of events is a set that contains all of
the elements that are in at least one of the
two events.
The union is written as (A ∪ B).
How about intersection of events?
(Students will raise their hand.)
(Name of the student), can you read the
definition of it.
The intersection of events is a set that
contains all the elements that are in both
events. The intersection of events A and B
is written as (A ∩ B).
Thank you, (Name of the student).

Now, let us have an example of union and

intersection of events.

So, remember our game earlier?

Yes, Sir!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
We'll use that as our example.

(The teacher will use the Venn diagram

created earlier by groups 1 and 2, and
groups 3 and 4, as an example.)

Let’s have another problem

Everyone, kindly read.

Problem: Twenty students are randomly Problem: Twenty students are randomly

selected from Grade 10-C. They are asked selected from Grade 10-C. They are asked
to report which book they prefer, fiction or to report which book they prefer, fiction or
nonfiction. The Venn diagram shows their nonfiction. The Venn diagram shows their
responses. responses.

Based on our Venn diagram, how many

students do not like to read books either
fiction or nonfiction?
(Students will raise their hand.)
(Name of the student), how many?
Sir, 3.
Very good!

Next, how many students like to read

fiction books or nonfiction books?
(Students will raise their hand.)
(Name of the student), yes?
Sir, 17.
How did you get that?
Sir, I add 9,2, and 6.
Excellent!

Question number 2 pertains to the union

of two events. What word used to denote
union of events?
(Students will raise their hand.)
(Name of the student), what word?
Sir, it is denoted as “or”.
That’s correct!

How many students like to read both

fiction books and nonfiction books?
(Students will raise their hand.)
(Name of the student), how many?
Sir, 2.
Very good!

Question number 4 pertains to the

intersection of two events. What word was
used to indicate intersection of events?
(Students will raise their hand.)

That would be the end of our discussion.

Class, do you have any questions,

concerns, or clarifications?
None so far, Sir!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
If you don’t have, it’s time for our Activity.

D. Application

For this activity we're going to use Plicker

cards to make our learning more
interactive and fun.

Here's how it works:

1. Each of you have a Plicker card with a

unique QR code or number on it. Please
make sure you keep track of your card.
2. When I ask a multiple-choice question
related to our lesson, hold up your Plicker
card with the answer you choose facing
up.
3. I will use my smartphone to scan the
room and capture your responses using the
Plicker app.
4. Once all responses are recorded, we'll
see the results in real-time on the screen.
5. Remember to keep your Plicker card
handy for the duration of our activity.

Do you get it class?

Yes, Sir!
(The class would answer in chorus.)
So, let’s do this in 3,2,1, Go!
(Some students would do Piece sign, some
would do Oppa Sign, and some would do
the MCDO pose.)
Very good class!

For those who do the MCDO pose, you

are all ready for the next lesson.

For those who do the Oppa sign, that’s

okay, nobody’s perfect. Just keep
practicing until you fully understand it.

And for those who do the Piece sign, it’s

okay if you’re not fully understand the
lesson now. Just do your best, and we’ll
discuss it again tomorrow quickly.

Is that clear, class?
