INTRODUCTION
In the rapidly evolving world of retail, businesses are constantly seeking ways to stay competitive and deliver
exceptional customer experiences. One powerful tool at their disposal is business analytics, which empowers
organizations to extract valuable insights from vast amounts of data and make informed decisions. In this
context, our project aims to explore the realm of retail store research through the lens of business analytics. The
retail industry is characterized by a multitude of factors, including changing consumer preferences, intense
competition, and evolving market dynamics. To thrive in this environment, retailers must gain a deep
understanding of their customers, products, and operations. The primary objective of our project is to apply
analytical techniques to a comprehensive dataset obtained from a retail store. By leveraging this dataset, we aim
to answer key research questions that can enhance the store's performance and profitability.
By conducting thorough research and analysis, we will provide actionable insights and recommendations
to the retail store management. These insights will enable them to make data-driven decisions, streamline
operations, and tailor their strategies to meet the ever-changing demands of their customers. Moreover,
this project serves as an excellent opportunity to showcase the power of business analytics in the retail
industry.
The store which we chose for our project was BANSAL MEGA MART. This store contains all the necessary
grocery items for the daily use of their customers. The whole team visited the store and observed each and every
aspect which was required for the analysis. We chose this store for our project because it was easily accessible by
the customers and the owners were quite cooperative in helping of the completion of project.
FINDING THE PROBLEM
QUESTIONS THAT WERE ASKED TO FIND THE PROBLEM WITHIN THE MART
• What are the main challenges facing your retail business today?
What decisions are you currently making based on data, and what
• decisions would you like to be able to make in the future with the
help of analytics?
Did you have all the data records of the current and the old staff
•
of yours ? if so, may we have the access to the historical data .
2. They did want to retain their staff as much as possible and certain changes in the shop so that it can be spacious
and attract more customers
3. They are not making any kind of decisions based on data they buy product according to the demand or just
choose the product that is demanding in the market .
4. They were using MS excel to make bill or to make a list of products that should be purchased to be placed in the
mart
5. They just want that the staff that can stay longer in the martand can easily handle the customers manage the
places or items or duties they are assigned with and the staff which is doing all these things should not leave the
mart in a short time .
6. They didn’t record the data for the staff and for the product for the collection of data we used observation
method and ask from the current staff and did research on the old staff which left the mart and also we have a chat
with the current staff which are leaving the mart
PROBLEM
IDENTIFICATION
bansal super mart was facing the problem of
high turnover rate or crunching problem with
the staff to help them with the problem in the
turnover rate
ASK
after getting the information me and my members held a discussion to choose the
problem in the mart for which the analysis should be done after seeing the major issue
to be the staff working the mart we selected the problem of high staff turnover in the
mart
For the first step that is “ASK” we asked different types of effective questions to the
owner of bansal mega mart side by side my teammates check the surrounding of the
teammates to further filter the amount of questions that should be asked to get an
effective results
These are the kind of questions that we asked at the moment :

contributing to the high turnover?

Are there any similarities or differences in turnover rates among different store locations or
regions?
PREPARE
FOR THE PREPARE PROCESS ,WE BUILT A TIMELINE FOR OURSELF THAT WAS OF 10-15 DAYS
IN WHICH WE VISITED THE SHOP TIME TO TIME WHENEVER NEEDED AND STARTED
COLLECTING THE DATA FOR THE RESULT THAT WE HAVE IDENTIFIED THAT IS TO MAKE
THE MART MORE ATTRACTIVE TO THE CONSUMERS MAKING IT LESS CONGESTED
THROUGH ORGANIZING THE PRODUCT AND INCREASING THE RETENTION RATE OF THE
EMPLOYESS
· WE CHOSE THE CORRECT METHOD TO COLLECT THE DATA AS THE SHOP OWNERS
AND WORKERS WEREN’T OF MUCH HELP SO WE CLICK PICTURES ,TALK WITH THE STAFF
AND MART OWNER TO GATHER THE RELATED INFORMATION
· WE FILTERED OUT THE CORRECT INFORMATION AND THE INFORMATION THAT IS
NEEDED IN THE ANALYSIS OF THE SITUATION
· WE MADE RULES AND DISTRIBUTED WORK WITHIN THE GROUP AND THE
INFORMATION AVAILABLE ONLY TO GROUP MEMBERS
· WE FINALIZED THE SPECIFIC INFORMATION THAT IS GATHERED BY US AND HOW
SHOULD THE DATA BE PRESENTED
PICTURES
PROCESS
for process step data was collected through direct and indirect
method and was visualised on MS excel and various steps were taken
to make the data more filtered more appropriate and include less
errors so that it can be used to check the data of any kind and check at
a single glance
WITH THE DATA THAT WE HAVE COLLECTED SO FAR THE ANALYSIS THAT CAN BE
DONE:
this table shows us the data of year 2022 for the
staff that shows the turnover rate of staff in the
mart
the data is being used to make scatter diagram
and trend lines so that through descriptive
analyitcs we can extract information that can be
used by us
STAFF FORECASTING CHART
this chart is based on the data of the turnover rates of year 2022
this is the data that is further added to extract an information that can give us maximum
information about the staff ,making pivot tables with the information can give us a fast and
clear cut picture of the information
PIVOT TABLE OF STAFF CURRENT DATA
the turnover rate of staff working in marts in india depends on various factors but on an average it
is around 20-30%
for the mart the turnover rate in around 34% so there is an issue that should be corrected so that
the turnover rate decreases
points that can be inferred from the data are as follows :
the mart was not recruiting persons more than 17 on an average there were 12 persons in a
month
there was a shift in the trendline during winter months the turnover rate was incresed
and the mart recruited some young children too to work on their shop as they were not
demanding much salary
the sudden increase in the trend line was because of the reason that the young ones working
their try to shift to another job during winter
the young workers were only 10th pass students and they did not have much knowledge
SOLUTIONS
THROUGH DESCRIPTIVE ANALYTICS THE SOUTIONS THAT CAN BE INFERRED FROM ALL
THE DATA CAN BE:
first , the persons who were leaving the mart were the young workers as some can only
work for part time some has to go to the villages more occasionally so recruiting workers
more correctly and checking their background and then staffing them will reduce this
second the turnover rate for the operational level is always high so putting a person in
charge to check correctly whether the operational level workers are efficient or not will
also reduce the problem
the gradual shift in the trend line is due to the sudden moving of the workers to the villages
in winters is more than summer hence increasing the turnover rate , giving them a worklife
balance and recruiting those persons who lives near to the area will be the best solution
recruiting those who are of age 19 and above will be much more beneficial
giving proper remuneration \
adding more female staff instead of some males as it was seen they were showing the least
turnover rate
SHARE
IN THIS REPORT, I HAVE ANALYZED THE TURNOVER DATA, CONDUCTED CORRELATION
ANALYSIS, AND IDENTIFIED KEY INSIGHTS REGARDING THE INCREASED TURNOVER
RATE. BASED ON THESE FINDINGS, I HAVE DEVELOPED ACTIONABLE
RECOMMENDATIONS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE.THE INTRODUCTION PROVIDES AN
OVERVIEW OF THE RETAIL MART AND THE CONTEXT OF THE PROBLEM, HIGHLIGHTING
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF EMPLOYEE TURNOVER IN THE INDUSTRY.
