COLEGIO DE LOS BAÑOS

ADAPTIVE TEACHING GUIDE

GENERAL PHYSICS 1

Lesson #3 VECTORS

Prerequisite Content-knowledge: Units of Measurements, Trigonometric Identities

The students were able to convert measurements and use trigonometric identities in calculation

Prerequisite Skill: SOHCAHTOA computations

Student should have the ability to manipulate formula of trigonometric functions using SOHCAHTOA

Prerequisites Assessment: COMPUTATION CHECKLIST

If you got a standard deviation of 0.25, what is its variance?

Introduction:
The topic is fairly good enough for two meetings (two hours). For inquiries and clarification, the student may consult their teacher at FB Messenger
Students are expected to gain concepts targeting the levels of thinking – Remembering, Understanding and Applying (RUA) on the most essential learning competencies on

a. Precision and accuracy in calculating vectors

b. Scientific literacy in using vector components
c. Critical and Analytical thinking skills in real-lire situations involving vectors

OVERVIEW OF THE LESSON

This lesson is all about scalars and vectors, performing vector addition, and using component vectors to illustrate different real-life scenarios

eathering is the breakdown of rocks at the Earth’s surface, by the action of rainwater, extremes of temperature, and biological activity. It does not involve the removal of rock material.
Magmatic processes comprise any process that affects the melting or crystallization of a magma. This includes partial melting of rocks of different composition under different conditions of
temperature and pressure (total and fluid such as H2O) and the processes that modify the composition of the melt after melting* Hydroelectric energy is a form of renewable energy
that uses the power of moving water to generate electricity.According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, coastal

natural resources. It provides food and livelihood to many people. However, it is also
the most geologically active zone on Earth. Coastal processes in this zone may result
to erosion, submersion and saltwater intrusion. These effects could lead to different
hazards such as:

1. Barrier islands movement.

Barrier islands are formed due to deposition of sand brought by waves
protecting the mainland from damage due to large waves. It also provides
habitat for the aquatic wildlife. It can be destroyed or moved by erosion on the
contrary.

2. Flooding
It also destroys habitat and may lead to great erosion. The main cause
of this hazard is the submersion or sea level rise, a climate change
phenomenon through which ocean water volume increases, ice sheets and
glaciers melt, and occurrence of thermal expansion.

3. Fresh water contamination

Intrusion or movement of saline water to fresh water aquifers can lead
to the degradation or contamination of ground water including drinking
water resources. Intrusion is aided by hydraulic action but triggered by
human activities.

Student’s Experiential Learning:

Chunk 1
Formative question: What is the difference of a vector to a scalar quantity?
Face-to-face Strategy: Data Analysis.
Synthesis:
Scalar quantities contain only unit and magnitude, but a vector quantity is actually a scalar quantity with directions
Chunk 2:
Formative question: How do you add vectors at different scenarios?
Face-to-face Strategy: Calculation of vectors
Synthesis:
Vectors were simply added if they have same directions, subtracted if in opposite directions, and calculated using Pythagorean theorem if the are in different directions.
Chunk 3:
Formative question: What’s the simplest thing to do in solving vector components?
Face-to-face Strategy: Calculation of vectors
Synthesis:
Using SOHCAHTOA, identify the opposite and the adjacent part of the triangle with respect to its angle. Then do the vector calculation using Pythagorean theorem and
summation of all component vectors.

RUA of a Student’s Learning:
From the central base as the origin, three bombs were located in different directions. The head of Intelligence Service indicated that the locations of the bombs were; 3
kilometers 3 o’clock position, 6 kilometers 6 o’clock position and 9 kilometers 9 o’clock position. Find the total displacement of the bombs.
