Magnetism

Draft
• like magnetic poles will repel each other

• magnetic poles of different types will attract

Theory
The word magnet comes from the Greek word magnitis litos

which means magnesia stone

Characteristic
Properties of magnetic materials:

• Ferromagnetic Objects

Objects or materials that can be strongly attracted by a magnet

• Paramagnetic Objects

Objects or materials that are weakly attracted by a magnet

• Diamagnetic Objects

Objects or materials that cannot be attracted by a magnet

Examples of objects/materials:

1. Iron, Cobalt, Steel, Nickel

(PHEROMAGNETIC)

2. Magnesium, Molybdenum, Lithium

(PARAMAGNETIC)

3. Silver, Gold, Copper, Bismuth

( DIAMAGNETIC )
Medan
The magnetic field is the area around the magnet which still has magnetic
properties so that it can affect ferromagnetic objects
Magnetic Field Terms

• Magnetic lines of force › field directions

Magnets are lines that connect the magnetic poles.

• Has a direction from the north pole to the south pole.

• Not always cut

• Tight lines indicate a strong magnetic field

Earth's Magnetism
The existence of magnetic poles in the form of the north pole and the south pole of the Earth gives
rise to the earth's magnetic field.

Movement of the Earth's core at the poles

- the poles of the earth which contain nickel and iron cause a force, namely the earth's magnetic
field

The declination angle is the inaccuracy of the Earth's magnetic north and south poles. Earth's
magnetic field also forms the horizontal angle of the earth's surface or inclination

Remove
1.Heated

The heated magnet experiences additional energy so that the particles

go faster random, so irregular.

2.Hit / dropped
If the magnet experiences a strong impact, then the elementary magnetism becomes random.

3.In alternating current flows

The opposite of the DC current method, if the magnet is supplied with alternating current (AC), it

will lose

its magnetic properties

4.Demagnetization
Provides a magnetic field in the opposite direction to the magnetic poles

Application
• Electromagnetic is a magnetic field that is deliberately created by wrapping a conductor wire and
then carrying an electric current

• Electromagnetic definition

Changes in the properties of steel / iron metal to become a magnet in a coil with an electric

charge

Tools that utilize the Electromagnetic concept:

1. Microphone / speaker

Converts sound energy into sound wave energy

2. Electric telephone

A live telephone cord vibrates the flexible metal diaphragm of the speaker

phone so the voice can be heard

3. Electric bell

When the buzzer is pressed the current flows in the coil. This results in iron in the coil

become Electromagnetic which can move the bell beater

4. Switch

When the switch is closed, a small electric current flows through the coil. The iron terrace will
be An electromagnet that attracts a piece of flexible iron
