1.A bus moves from rest with a uniform acceleration of 2m/s2 for the first 6s. It maintained the velocity

reached for 30 seconds and was brought to rest after 5 seconds when

the brake was applied. Find for the motion: (i) the maximum velocity

reached (ii) the total distance travelled

(iii) the average speed for the whole

journey (iv) the average retardation

(Draw the velocity time graph of the

motion using the information above)


2.The period of oscillation of a simple

pendulum is 2.18 seconds. Calculate; (i)

the time to complete 50 oscillations (ii) the

length of the simple pendulum {g=10m/s2)

3. (a) An object is thrown vertically

upwards with a velocity of 20m/s at an angle 30° to the horizontal.

Calculate: (i) the maximum height

reached (ii) the time taken to reach

the maximum height (ii) the time of flight.

4. A bullet of mass 100g is fired horizontally into a fixed wooden block

with a speed of 20m/s. The bullet is brought to rest in the block in 0.1s by a constant resistance.
Calculate the:

(i) magnitude of the resistance (ii) the

distance moved by the bullet in the wood

5. State Newton's second law of motion

(b) a tanker of mass 20000kg at 10m/s

collides and sticks to a bus of mass 5000kg travelling at 20m/s in opposite direction. What is their
common velocity

after collision?

6. (a) A machine with efficiency 80% and

velocity ratio 5 lifts a weight off 1500N through a vertical height of 5m.
