Part B. Determination of Ka by “Half Volume Method”
1. What are some sources of error in each of the methods used in this experiment?
From the methods discussed above, the possible error could lead to an incorrect reading from
the pH meter, which is read by the corresponding health professional. It can happen if the equipment
is not calibrated, which gives an imprecise reading. In addition, once the reading is erroneous, the
calculated Ka will be inaccurate because once the pH reading is elevated, the value of Ka is lower
than the actual results. Furthermore, calculations can be a significant factor in the experiment; even if
you obtain accurate results, if you do not know how to perform the calculations, the result will still be
inaccurate.
2. What is the accepted value for the Ka of the acid you used?
The second method is used because it uses the ph at half neutralization point in a weak acid-
strong base titration. The half ph is obtained by the use of the determination of the ka of the acid as
discussed.
4. What’s the difference between the term equivalent point and end point?
The equivalent point is when the chemical reaction comes to an end. While the endpoint is the
point where colors change when it occurs in.
