EQUIPMENT:
 Modem
 Wireless Router
 Laptop or PC
 ISP

SETTING UP EQUIPMENT:
First, choose your ISP.
Some suitable choices are:
 Sky
 BT Broadband
 TalkTalk
Get them to provide internet for your home.
How to set up modem:
1. Place modem near the port that provides internet service.
2. Connect the cable port on your modem to the outlet that provides internet service.
3. Use the included power adapter to give power.
How to set up Wireless Router:
1. Connect an ethernet cable from the Internet port on your modem to the port on the
Router.
2. Power the modem up and wait until the Internet light is on.
3. Power the Wi-Fi router and wait until the Wi-Fi light is on.
How to connect device to router wirelessly:
1. Press the Wi-Fi button on your laptop.
2. Select your service provider. If its TalkTalk press on the one that says TalkTalk. If
you are not sure check your router for info.
3. Type in the password on your router.

Troubleshooting:
Why is my modem or router not working? Check if the cables are broken, plugged in
properly or there is not a power outage.
Why when I connect my router to my PC does it come as no internet? It means something is
wrong with your router or modem. Check it and turn it off and on if you must.
Where is the port that provides internet service? Ask your ISP. They will tell you.
Which ISP should I choose? Anyone as long as they are not scammers or hackers.
Where is the password for my Wi-Fi? It will tell you on the router. Look and search for it.
You will find it.

TASK 2:
What is a modem? A modem is a device that converts analogue signals sent from your ISP to
digital signal from your router, computer etc.
What is a router? A networking device that sends data packets between computer networks.
Find 3 different ISP’s and how much they cost per month.
 Sky - £14 a month
 BT Broadband - £27.99 a month
 Virgin Media - £29.99 a month
