Since the pandemic year of 2019, the WTTC's reports have become
crucial metrics for measuring post-pandemic recovery and tourism
growth. The industry faced significant setbacks, and despite gradual
improvement, it has not yet fully returned to its pre-pandemic levels. All
most all analyses and reports still use 2019 as a benchmark for
comparison. In the WTTC's latest annual research for the year 2024, key
highlights indicate that in 2023, the travel and tourism sector contributed
9.1% to the global GDP, marking a 23.2% increase from 2022. However,
this figure remains 4.1% below the level observed in 2019.

In terms of employment, the sector supported 330 million jobs in 2023,
representing a 10% increase from 2022. Nevertheless, this number
remains 1.4% below the level seen in 2019. The report also provides
estimated data for the year 2024 and forecasts up to 2034, offering insights
into the total global GDP contribution and share of global jobs within the
travel and tourism sector.

Pakistan Tourism Growth and Economy
The influx and outflow of tourists, as well as the travel activities of native
residents within the country, all fall under the umbrella of tourism and
significantly impact economic and financial indicators, thus playing a
pivotal role in the tourism economy.
In the WTTC's latest 2024 annual research, key data pertaining to Pakistan
reveals that in 2023, the travel and tourism sector contributed 5.8% to the
country's GDP. This marks an impressive 8.7% increase from 2022 and a
substantial 17.5% rise from the levels observed in 2019.
Looking ahead, the report provides estimated data for the year 2024 and
forecasts up to 2034, shedding light on Pakistan's total GDP contribution
and the sector's share in the country's job market. These projections offer
valuable insights into the trajectory of Pakistan's tourism industry and its
