TEXT PROCESSOR
Definition: Word processors are a type of software with multiple writing functions, with
different fonts, letter or character sizes, colors, paragraph types, artistic effects and other
things.
Free Software Word Processor: This is an open source processor , which has a design
that is very similar to Microsoft Office. So its use will be very simple for you. In terms of
functions, it also has a lot of similarity to the original Office
Proprietary Software Word Processor: It is any computer program in which the user has
limitations to use, modify or redistribute it (the latter with or without modifications). (Also
called closed source or non-free, private or proprietary software)
For the Free Software Foundation (FSF), this concept applies to any software that is not free or
that is only partially free (semi-free), either because its use, redistribution or modification is
prohibited, or requires express permission from the software owner. .
Elements of the word processor work environment: In this standard bar we can find the
functions that make it easier for us to create some text , such as, for example, cut,
paste, copy, save, tables.
Menu bar: The menu bar contains Word commands, grouped into drop-down
menus . at the far right, allows us to close the current document. Menu bar drop-
down menus contain three basic types of items.
Standard Bar: The standard toolbar contains icons to immediately execute some
of the most common operations, such as Save, Copy, Paste, etc.
Format Bar: The format bar is a tool that is usually available in word processors and other
applications that work with text, and that allows you to change its formatting. The
formatting bar usually has options for choosing the font with which to write, and the choice
of color, character styles (bold, italic, normal, etc.), font size, underlining style, special
effects (strikethrough, double strikethrough, superscript, subscript, shadow, outline,
emboss, engraving, small caps, uppercase), spaces between characters, lines and
paragraphs, and other effects. It is usual for the format bar or menu to be simply called
"Format", in some applications it is called directly "Text", "Font".
The formatting bar is divided into: Typical functions of the text formatting bar
Change the font or typeface.
Change the font size.
Increase or decrease font size in automatic scaling. Select the text and with the keyboard.

Choose the font style and paragraph style.
Paragraph alignment: left, centered, right, justified.

Page Settings: Open the File menu.
Select the Page Setup command. A dialog box will appear with four sections:
Margins, paper size, paper source and page layout.
Set values in the parameters of all or some of the sections.
Press the Accept button.
Page Margins: Open the File menu.
Select the Page Setup command.
In the dialog box, click the Margins tab to display the section options.
The most used options are: Top: press the arrows in the box to increase or
decrease the top margin . ...
Press the Accept button.
Page orientation: Orientation : There are two types of page orientation , the horizontal
one where the sheet is wider than it is tall and the vertical one where the sheet is taller
than it is wide. Word has portrait orientation predefined, but you can change it depending
on the needs of your document.
How to format text:
1. Select the text you want to format . To select a single word, double-click it. ...
2. Select an option to change the font, font size, font color, or make the text bold,
italic, or underlined.
Font: Letters , technically, are known as fonts. A font or typeface is nothing more than a
definition of the different characters that can be used in a document.
Font size: In Word we can decide what font size we want to apply. To choose the font
size , you must go to the drop-down arrow in the Home tab, click (the list is displayed) and
choose the size you need. Normal text is between 10 and 12, titles are best between 14
and 22.
Text alignment: To apply the alignment we must go to the Format menu → Paragraph,
Alignment tab. We can also use the corresponding buttons on the toolbar. There are 4
types of alignment : LEFT, RIGHT, CENTER and JUSTIFIED.
Left Alignment: To align the text to the left, press Ctrl + L.
Centering: To center the text , press Ctrl + E.
Right-aligned: To center the text , press Ctrl + E.
Justified: If the paragraph has both sides aligned (left and right simultaneously) it is called
justified alignment . It is what we are going to apply to our document and you can do it from the
tab , in the dialog , but it is faster and more convenient to use the buttons
( Align to the left, Centered, Align right and Justified) on the Formatting
toolbar.
How to insert a table: For a basic table , click Insert > Table and move the cursor over the
grid until you have highlighted the number of columns and rows you want. To create a
larger table or to customize one, select Insert > Table > Insert Table .
How to insert an image: Click on the shape where you want to add an image . On the
Format tab, in the Shape Styles group, click the arrow next to Shape Fill. In the folder or
location that contains the image you want to use, click the image file, and then select
Insert .
