DESIGN OF THIN-WALL REINFORCED CONCRETE BUILDINGS

DESIGN OF AN 8-STORY BUILDING

GROUP N° 02

01. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project to be designed consists of an 8-story multifamily building with four apartments per floor (32) on a land of
387.70 m2, located on the coast.

The area of the 1st level is 387.70 m² and that of the other floors is 394.66 m², with a mezzanine height of 2.40 m.
circulation or common areas 36.00 m² on each floor.

02. STRUCTURING AND PRE-SIZED.

The general architectural plan shows two defined blocks with two departments each of which has common circulation on
all levels.

Due to the high density of walls in both directions, reinforced concrete walls will be used on the 8 floors.

WALLS
10 cm walls will be assumed for the entire building, which will be verified with the seismic analysis. If greater height is
required, where appropriate. f'c=210 kg/cm² will be used.

The final thickness of the walls will depend on the design, and the plate can be increased to 15 cm.

SLABS
The slabs are 10 cm thick and a continuous bottom mesh that meets the minimum amount of 0 will be considered.
common (hall) will be considered 15 cm. Consider 8 mm and 12 mm canes. In bathrooms, using a 20 c slab will use
f'c=175 kg/cm².

FOUNDATION
For the design of the foundation, the use of a foundation plate with a minimum thickness of 0.30, load-bearing 1.50
kg/cm² and concrete of f'c=210 kg/cm² has been proposed.

Other considerations:
SYMMETRY: The building to be designed in this project has adequate symmetry in both directions, an important
network.

RESISTANCE: The resistance is basically provided by the 0.10 m reinforced concrete walls, thus guaranteeing adequate
resistance of the whole, also having appropriate continuity and thus avoiding high

DUCTILITY: The characteristics of the project with the use of thin walls which makes us presuppose the use of double
mesh, which do not have a significant inelastic deformation capacity.
According to standard E.030, the maximum relative displacement of the mezzanine should not exceed 0.005. Seismic
resistance E-0.30 establishes that the seismic reduction factor is R=4.

LATERAL RIGIDITY: The elements that provide rigidity to the building are the reinforced concrete walls, in order to
adequate density and distribution of them in both important directions. resist the hori forces
