Part-C : Short Answer Type Questions


Ans-1 : All search engines follow the three steps :
Step-1 : Web Crawling search the web and select pieces of information from various websites. The first part of
the search engine is a software called the Web Crawler or Spider or a Robot.
Step-2 : Create an index of data and their locations. Everything that the spider find gets stored in the second
part called the index.
Step-3 : Search for Keywords in the index. The third part of the search engine is the actual search software.
This searches through the millions of pages in the search engine’s database or index and tries to match
the keywords that the user entered into the search query box. Once it finds the matches it displays it for
the user.
Ans-2 :
The process of transferring a file from client to server is called uploading. The process of transferring files from server
to client is called downloading.
To upload a file using browser : Log on to the server by typing ftp://domainname.extn.
This means that the user (client) has to log on to the remote machine. While logging in proper authentication will be
done by the server when the client supplies the username and password. Once this is done the server automatically
grants permission to transfer, rename or delete files. This means that the user must possess a proper account with the
server with total file access permissions.
To download a file using browser :
1. Open the website from where you want to download something, in any browser. For example, open
www.songsmp3.net to download any song.
2. Select the file you want to download and right-click on it. Now, select the Save targets as... option from the
shortcut menu. The Save As dialog box appears.

3. Specify the location and click Save button to download the file to your hard disk.
Ans-3 : To search information, follow these steps:
(i) Open your browser.
(ii) Open the popular Search Engine like Google by typing www.google.co.in.
(iii) Type a keyword in the search box and click Search button. In the example, ‘Rural India’ has been typed.
You will be given a long list of all the sites somewhere related to the keyword you typed.
(iv) Click on any of the links you think is most suited to your needs.
(v) The relevant web page will be displayed.
Ans-4 : The minimum requirements for video conferencing are :
vv computer system
vv video camera or webcam
vv computer monitor, television or projector
vv microphones
vv loudspeakers
vv analog or digital telephone networks, LAN or Internet
vv A software like Microsoft Office Live Meeting that supports video conferencing.
Ans-5 : One advantage of e-mail over ordinary mailing method is – most of the e-mail services are free of cost with no over
head cost involved as in the case of postal mail where you have to pay the postage fee.

Part-D : Long Answer Type Questions


Ans-1 : An e-mail message typically consists of a header and the body of the message.
The first part, the header, answers the question- where should the message be sent to? This in fact has information
about the person or the organisation and the path that has to be followed to reach its destination. Additional
information like date, return path, etc is also a part of the header.
The body is the actual message that is being sent. The body can also have attachments. Attachments are the images,
video, audio, text that can be sent along with an email. These attachments don’t get altered in any way and are
delivered as it is in their original formats.
Ans-2 : The difference between e-mail and video conferencing are :

Ans-3 : The term File transfer refers to the process of transmitting files over a computer network. File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
is the standard that controls the transfer of files between two computers in a network.
Advantages Of FTP :
1. Users can get new software, latest versions of existing software and useful data for academic purposes.
2. There is no problem with different systems running on different operating systems while using FTP, for example
a machine running Windows 7 can transfer files from a computer running on Linux.
3. Size of the files is not a limitation unlike e-mail where there is a limitation to size of the files that can be sent as
attachments.
Ans-4 : A blog is derived from the term weblog. A blog is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual. It contains
regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or videos. Blog also, means
‘to maintain or add contents to a blog’.
A typical blog combines text, images and links to other blogs, web pages and other media related to its topic. There

are different types of blogs like Personal blog, Corporate blog, Moblog, etc. An important aspect of many blogs is the
ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format.
The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog
website, such as Twitter, that allow bloggers to share thoughts and feelings instantaneously with friends and family
and is much faster than e-mailing or writing.
Advantages Of Blogging :
vv Blogs allow you to share your ideas and views.
vv The cost of blogging is very low. It may be the cheapest form of advertising.
vv Blogs also allow you to speak directly to your customers.
vv Blogs are a positive way of getting feedback as readers react to certain pieces of information and suggest story
ideas.
vv Blogs build the profile of the writer, showcasing his/her talent and expertise.
vv Blogs make education demand-oriented and participant-centered.
