Differential Calculus in Computer Engineering
As is well known, all sciences are divided into: main sciences and secondary sciences, from which we
could say that the main sciences are the basis and a valuable support for the secondary sciences,
which in turn are always directing their advances to help to strengthen the development of the main
sciences.
Based on the above, we could say that mathematical sciences, being a main science, supports
practically all areas of engineering knowledge and almost all activities carried out by human beings
through their daily lives.
As for Computer Engineering, it has many fields of action in which mathematics is directly applied, as
in the case of software development where mathematical cases are constantly applied to solve
problems and optimize the programming code using formulas, allowing logic to be improved. and
reasoning to create algorithms or methods that solve complex situations. Computer engineering
today notably supports the development of mathematics in the sense that new developments are
being made aimed at learning algebra and calculus among other sciences.
An important application where calculus is gaining strength is in artificial intelligence and neural
networks.
Some of the applications that can be used and easily accessed are capable of tackling complex
algebra and calculus problems and working quickly and efficiently with matrices and vectors. They
also have a very comfortable and simple visual environment that supports all types of graphics and
representations.
A clear example of this is the Derive application, which is an application intended for any student,
teacher or professional who has to perform some type of task related to mathematics. Derive can
process algebraic variables, expressions, equations, functions, vectors, matrices, and Boolean
expressions. One of the most used programs in environments related to mathematics, universities
and engineering jobs.
This application caught our attention because it has a step-by-step tool for carrying out calculation
exercises that allows us to easily break down and perceive the operation of these equations.
In conclusion, for us students there are many tools already available that will help us increase our
interest and learning in the great world of mathematics.
Calculus is widely applied in all branches of engineering as it is closely linked to problem solving and
innovation, which is an aspect that every engineer must keep in mind in their daily work.
In Computer Engineering, which is what we are currently studying, one of the things in which
differential calculus is most applied is when it comes to graphics.
There are many operations that require the use of calculus. Example: knowing the area under the
curve, in computer systems differential calculus is used for any problem that has to do with variation
from time, speed, volume, etc. In any case, I changed something. Differential and integral calculus is
used in everything that has a graph and you want to know the area or slope so that it gives you
results that you can apply to a particular problem.
For example, in chemical engineering, differential equations represent states in transition where
several variables change at the same time. When one is solving the behavior, for example, of a
chemical reactor during the start of a reaction, one poses it differently; In electrical engineering,
differential calculus is also used to define the behavior of equipment in the control and
instrumentation diagrams of production plants; Another clear example is Petroleum engineering, it
serves to study the behavior of the physical or thermodynamic properties of a fluid among other
functionalities.
Finally, differential calculus is used in financial engineering to measure the returns derived from
financial assets in the event of interest changes.
and risk premiums and being able to build assets that logically give an interesting return.
It is used in administration and economics to determine the total profit or total net profits.
Additionally, in economics it has application in costs, compound interest, net profit, manufacturing
costs, among others.
In conclusion, calculation operations will always go hand in hand with engineering activities to solve
various operations and demonstrate results that require accuracy.
FRAMEWORK
It is important to highlight that in computer engineering the solution to problems begins by defining,
knowing and understanding in all its magnitudes what is intended to be solved; Defining problems
involves analysis and reflection on their magnitude, scope and consequences, and this in turn
requires specialized knowledge or deep learning about what the problem means, and that is where
the computer engineer makes use of Integral calculus, since it is one of the most powerful
mathematical tools that allows solving problems from various disciplines in a clear, elegant and
concise way.
For this, it is necessary that the engineer be able to identify the basic mathematical models that arise
in the exercise of his profession.
In the area of computing, the mathematical models used in the development of software for
different applications are fundamental.
The computer engineer must know the problem as much as possible to solve it in the best way, but it
turns out that on many occasions the problems seem simple and in reality they are not, or it also
turns out that the implications of the solutions require great precision without possibilities of failure.
This forces us to look for highly effective solutions, with very strict margins of error and this
characteristic is taken from the integral calculus, which allows the acquisition of basic mathematical
knowledge for later use in the different areas that the engineer develops.
For the development of the units, we recommend relying on the following tool that synthesizes the
most important formulas of differential calculus
