Hydrostatic Test Procedure

This document establishes the procedure for carrying out hydrostatic tests on cold water pipes to verify their tightness. Describes pretest activities, such as calibrating instruments and ensuring end tightness. Explains that the test consists of injecting water to reach the specified pressure and maintaining it for 2 hours, verifying that there are no leaks. When finished, the pipeline is emptied and the equipment used is dismantled.

PROCEDURE FOR HERMETICITY TESTS

BY HYDROSTATIC TEST.
1. Aim
Establish activities for the execution of hydrostatic tests on pipes and accessories of cold water
transport systems, to verify their tightness.

2. Scope
This procedure applies to cold water service pipe systems, made of galvanized steel, of any
diameter.

3. Area of application
This procedure is of general application and mandatory observance in hydrostatic testing work
on pipes and accessories carried out by CURBAMASA (THE COMPANY).

4. Definitions

4.1 Manometer: It is a pressure gauge.

4.2 Pressure: It is the force exerted perpendicularly on a surface, based on the atmospheric
pressure by measurement. It is usually expressed in lb/in² (psi) or kg/cm².

4.3 Design Pressure: It is the pressure with which a pipeline is designed and its value must be
greater than or equal to the maximum operating pressure.

4.4 Operating Pressure: It is the actual pressure at which a system operates, under normal
conditions.

4.5 Hydrostatic Test Pressure: It is the maximum internal pressure allowed to carry out the
hydrostatic test.

4.6 Maximum Operating Pressure: It is the maximum pressure to which a pipeline is subjected
during its operation.

4.7 Pressurize: Apply pressure to the inside of a tube or container.

4.8 Hydrostatic Test: It is the pressure test to which the pipes must be subjected to certify their
tightness, maintaining the pressure for an established time, using water as the test fluid.

4.9 Temperature: It is the heat content in the matter. It is usually expressed in ºC or ºF.

4.10 Ambient Temperature: It is the temperature of the air in the environment surrounding the
place where the installation is located.

5. Frequencies

5.1 Of execution
This procedure is applied each time a hydrostatic test is performed.

5.2 Document Review

This procedure must be reviewed and/or updated every three years or sooner if suggestions or
recommendations for change justify it.

5.3 Of Work Cycles

To ensure understanding of this activity, work cycles are carried out after training in this activity.

6. Responsibilities

6.1 Of the company.

6.1.1 Carry out the work of increasing pressure, depressing and recovering
Liquid.

6.2 From the Operation Department

6.2.1 Calibrate and install pressure and temperature recording and measurement accessories.

6.3 From the Department of Industrial Safety.

6.3.1 Monitor and monitor activities to avoid unsafe acts.
6.3.2 Attach the hydrostatic test to the historical file.

7. Development

Previous activities
Before performing the hydrostatic test, the following activities must be carried out:

• Prepare hydrostatic test program. (test date)

• Recognize the areas where the hydrostatic test will be carried out.
• Inform the agencies involved and hold a meeting prior to the hydrostatic test.
• Obtain access permits to the pipeline and facilities, if required.
• Obtain permission to carry out risky work from the industrial safety department.
• Have materials and equipment required for the hydrostatic test.
• Establish good communication with mobile equipment, if required.

• Designate the personnel responsible for each area, who must give clear and precise
instructions to the personnel involved.
• Ensure the availability, quantity and quality of the required water.
• Determine the pressure of the hydrostatic test and its duration. (WILL BE DONE
ACCORDING TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY SPEC SECTION 15000 GENERAL
MECHANICAL INSTALLATION, SECTION 3.1, SECTION “G” AND “H”).
• Lay and join the pipe sections, using the necessary equipment, if required.
• Ensure that the pipe or segment is clean internally before starting the hydrostatic test.
• Ensure tightness at the ends of the pipe to be hydrostatically tested, by installing blind flanges,
plugs or blind joints.
• Calibrate and install pressure gauges, where required.
• Install vents at the end of the test line to purge air, if required.
• Install coupling or nipple of the required diameter for water injection.

Hydrostatic test

7.1 Contractor company personnel must inject the water into the pipe until it is packed,
completely eliminating the air (bleeding) through the vent valve(s), placed at the end of the test
line.

7.2 Contractor company personnel must provide the test forms.

7.3 Contractor company personnel must test and install the pressure pump with sufficient
capacity to achieve the specified pressure.

7.4 Contractor company personnel must initiate pressurization of the pipe, injecting water to
increase the pressure until the specified test pressure is reached.

7.5 Personnel from the contracting company must begin recording the test sheet when the test
pressure is obtained, which must bear at least the signature of the supervisory personnel
(UBSA) at the beginning of the test. An effort will be made to obtain the duly registered signature
of the representative of WALLBRIDGE. (SIGNATURE, TIME AND DATE).

7.6 Contractor company personnel must maintain the hydrostatic test pressure for 2 (two) hours
without significant pressure variations occurring.

7.7 Contractor company personnel must maintain the test pressure which will be 50 PSIG
above the maximum operating pressure of the line but never less than 150 PSIG, 100%
hydrostatic for the specified time.

7.8 In the event of pressure losses due to leaks in the pipe, accessories or connections, the
staff must correct and repeat the test until acceptance, but not in the case of well-proven
temperature variations.

7.9 At the end of the test, the test sheet will be removed and signed by at least supervisory
personnel (UBSA). An effort will be made to obtain the signature of the representative of
WALLBRIDGE duly registered (SIGNATURE OF ACCEPTANCE AND APPROVAL OF THE
TEST, TIME AND DATE).

7.10 Company personnel must slowly depressurize the tested pipe until reaching 0 (zero)
pressure.

7.11 Company personnel must completely empty the tested pipe by appropriate means.

7.12 Supervision, security and contracting company personnel must verify that all equipment,
tools, materials and accessories used in the development of the hydrostatic test (blind flanges,
plugs or blind joints, pressure gauges, nipples, couplings, etc.) are removed.

7.13 Company personnel and industrial security must carry out general cleaning work in the
areas as appropriate.

7.14 Once the lines have been delivered, a copy for the file will be given to the signers of the
test sheet. This will be in digital or printed format.
