Lisa Biography

Lisa was born with the name Pranpriya Manobal on March 27, 1997 in Buri Ram
Province in Thailand, but would later legally change her name to Lalisa, meaning
"she who is blessed", on the advice of a
fortune teller to bring her greater prosperity.
. She is an only child, her mother is called
Chitthip Bruschweiler and is Thai, while her
stepfather, Marco P. Brüschweiler, is a
renowned Swiss chef in Thailand. He
attended Praphamontree II school in
Thailand.
Lisa started dancing when she was 8 years
old and began her vocal training in high
school. He then began competing regularly
in dance competitions during his childhood,
including in To Be Number One, and joined
the eleven-member dance team We Zaa
Cool14 alongside current Got7 member
BamBam. In September 2009, the group
participated in the LG Entertainment Million
Dream Sanan World competition,
broadcast on Channel 9, and won the "Special Team" award. Lisa also participated
in a singing competition as a representative of her school called "Top 3 Good
Morals of Thailand", organized by the Moral Promotion Center in early 2009, where
she finished as a finalist.
At a YG Entertainment audition held in Bangkok in 2010, Lisa was the only one
chosen to become a trainee for the company out of 4,000 candidates. He signed
his contract in 2011 to become a trainee and move to South Korea at the age of
14. Due to her young age, Lisa's parents did not approve of her becoming
independent, but later supported her decision and she moved to South Korea to
begin her formal training, which lasted five years, as her dream was to become an
idol. Lisa became YG Entertainment's first foreign artist on April 11, 2011.
In November 2013, while still a trainee, she appeared in Taeyang's music video for
the song "Ringa Linga." Lisa was one of the background dancers, along with other
members of the groups iKon and Winner.
In March 2015, Lisa began her first job as a model for the streetwear brand
Nona9on, which had already been represented by other prominent artists such as
CL and Taeyang. She was then the face of the South Korean cosmetics brand
Moonshot in 2016.
In August 2016, Lisa debuted as one of the four members of the South Korean girl
group Blackpink, where she serves as the main dancer and lead rapper, as well as
being the first non-Korean artist to debut under the agency. Blackpink debuted with
the single album titled Square One, featuring the lead singles "Whistle" and
"Boombayah", with "Whistle" achieving a Perfect All-Kill in the South Korean music
industry, topping all South Korean charts on its debut. As of October 2020, the
group has released one studio album titled The Album (2020), one Japanese
studio album called Blackpink In Your Area (2018), three EPs (Blackpink, Square
Up, and Kill This Love), and two albums. singles, Square One (2016) and Square
Two (2016).
Lisa was chosen by MBC's military variety show called Real Men 300 as a
permanent member of the show to be a part of the Korean Army Academy edition
from September 21, 2018 onwards. The show marked her first permanent role on a
television show since her debut. Her appearance earned her an unofficial award
titled "Character of the Year" at the 2018 MBC Entertainment Awards.
On November 5, 2018, she unveiled her YouTube channel, Lilifilm Official, which
focuses on travel and lifestyle along with dance performances. As of July 2019 she
had over 1.3 million subscribers and had received a button gold play rate on
YouTube. In particular, one of the dance performance videos went viral in 2020
due to a meme in which screens of her legs were juxtaposed to the torso of a
character or public figure, often with the legend "Did it work?" Celebrities such as
Dolly Parton, Stephen Colbert, James Corden, Luke Evans and Lil Nas X also
participated in the meme, posting photos of themselves with Lisa's legs.
In March 2020, Lisa served as a dance mentor during IQiyi channel's Chinese girl
group survival show Youth With You Season 2. In February 2021, she returned as
a dance mentor on the boy group survival show for its third season.
On April 19, 2021, a YG Entertainment official revealed to South Korean media
outlet The Korea Herald that Lisa would debut as her group's third soloist, following
the works of Jennie and Rosé, with schedules that would later be officially
announced. On July 12, via Star News, her label revealed that filming for her music
video was underway, while on August 25 it was announced that Lisa would
officially release her debut single album under the name Lalisa. on September 10,
2021.
Upon its release, the music video for "Lalisa" became the most viewed video by a
solo artist in 24 hours with 73.6 million views, breaking the record of "Me!" by
Taylor Swift featuring Brendon Urie, which received 65.2 million views in 24 hours.
In just 48 days it surpassed 300 million views, making it the K-pop video that
reached that figure in the shortest amount of time, ahead of “Solo,” by fellow
Blackpink member Jennie, which took 183 days. The song also debuted at number
two on the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. United States, obtaining his first
entry in the top ten on the chart. He later released "Money" corresponding to the B-
side of the album. The single debuted on the weekly Gaon Download Chart of
South Korea at the position while in the United States In the United States,
Billboard reported that the single entered the 44th position on the Billboard Global
200 chart, later marking a new milestone on this music chart by becoming the first
female K-pop soloist to chart a song for 2 weeks. It also ranked at number 24 on
the Billboard Global Excl list. US, while on the list specialized in digital rap music,
she occupied first place, becoming the first female K-pop act to occupy that place,
reaching number 1 on the Rap digital song sales list, having sold just over 6,900
copies, surpassing Drake's "Way 2 Sexy." Additionally, "Money" made history on
the UK music charts by staying in the Top 100 for three consecutive weeks, being
the third song by a Korean act to stay that long on the chart, only surpassed by the
singles "Gangnam Style." (2012) and "Gentleman" (2013), both by PSY. The
album sold 736,221 copies in Korea in the first week of release, setting the record
for highest first-week sales among all female artists and making Lisa the first
female solo artist to achieve 500,000 copies in first-week sales. .
On October 22, 2021, Lisa made her first global collaboration with the release of
the single "SG" with the Frenchman DJ Snake, the Puerto Rican singer Ozuna and
the American rapper Megan Thee Stallion, also credited as a writer and composer.
The song reached the second position on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100
music chart. At the end of 2021, it was reported that, along with Rosé, they were
the most successful K-pop solo stars on the Billboard Global 200 chart, ranking
"Money", "Lalisa" and "SG" among the five songs with the longest stay on the list
during the year, with 10, 10 and 5 weeks respectively. While on December 23,
2021, Lisa received the Gold Certification Plate from Hanteo Chart, for 736,221
copies sold of her single album, in addition to the official certification plate from
Initial Chodong, which certifies the official record of an artist who exceeds a certain
number of album sales according to data compiled by the Hanteo music chart. Lisa
built on the success of her first single album by winning numerous awards in
China, Germany, France, South Korea and Thailand, in addition to becoming the
first K-Pop soloist to obtain the highest award in the category in the same year,
both at the MTV Video Music Awards 2022 and at the MTV Europe Music Awards
2022
Lisa speaks Thai, Korean, English, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. She has
more than 80 million followers on Instagram, she is the most followed K-pop artist
and celebrity in Thailand and South Korea.
