4 a) Write the algorithm for solving Travelling salesman problem 06
b) A college is having a degree program for which the effect of semester time 14
available is very less and the program requires field work. Hence a few hours
can be saved from the total number of class hours, and can be utilized for the
field work. Based on past experience, the college has estimated the number of
hours required to teach each subject by each faculty. The course in its present
semester has 5 subjects and the college has considered 6 existing faculty
members to teach these courses. The objective is to assign the best 5 teachers
out of these 6 faculty members to teach 5 different subjects so that the total
number of class hours required is minimized. The data of this problem is
summarized in Table.

1. a) Alumco manufactures aluminum sheets and aluminum bars. The maximum 08
production capacity is estimated at either 800 sheets or 600 bars per day. The
maximum daily demand is 550 sheets and 580 bars. The profit per ton is $40
per sheet and $35 per bar. Determine the optimal production mix.
b) Top toys are planning a new radio and TV advertising campaign. A radio 12
commercial costs $300 and a TV ad costs $2000. A total budget of $20,000 is
allotted to the campaign. However, to ensure each medium will have at least
one radio commercial and one TV ad, the most that can be allotted to either
medium cannot exceed 80 % of the total budget. It is estimated that the first
radio commercial will reach 500 people, with each additional reaching only
200 new ones. For TV the first ad will reach 4500 people and each additional
ad an additional 3000. How should the budgeted amount be allocated between
radio and TV? (Formulate this problem as an LPP and Solve)

2. a) A student has 2 final exams to prepare for. Each hour of study he devotes to 15
OR is expected a return of INR 600 in terms of long range benefits. Each hour
devoted to QAR is expected a return of INR 300 in terms of long range job
benefits. The shops are all closed and student has only 15 cigarettes. He need 1
cigarette for every 20 min while studying QAR and for every 12 mins while
studying OR. Time is running short and only 4 hours remain to prepare for the
exams. It is necessary that the student must devotee atleast 2 hours for
studying. The student would like to maximize his returns and for the effort he
puts. Formulate this problem as LPP and determine the optimal solution using
simplex table.
b) Graphically show the following special cases during the solution of LPP using 05
the graphical method.
i. Unbounded Solution.
ii. Infeasible Solution.

3. a) We have three reservoirs with daily supplies of 15, 20 and 25 million liters of 15
fresh water respectively. On each day we must supply four cities A, B, C and D

5. a) The milk plant of a city distributes its products by trucks, loaded on the loading 12
dock. It has its own fleet of trucks of a private transport company. This
transport company has complained that sometime its trucks have to wait in line
and thus the company losses money paid for truck and driver that is only
waiting. The company has asked the milk plant management either to go in for
a second loading dock or discount prices equivalent to the waiting time. The
following data are available. Average arrival rate (all truck) =3 per hour, and
service rate = 4 per hour. The transport company has provided 40% of the total
number of trucks. Assuming that these rates are random according to poison
distribution, determine:
i. The probability that a truck has to wait.
ii. The waiting time of a truck that waits.
iii. The Expected waiting time of company trucks per day.
