Office coexistence manual

Most of us who work spend at least 8 hours a day with our colleagues,
sometimes more than we spend at home with our family , either because after
those working hours a long journey home awaits us or because we often We stay
longer in the office.

Respecting the space and time of colleagues is only the beginning of the path
towards a harmonious work coexistence. Below, we present some basic rules
that you must respect in the office, compiled in a survey we did at
PyMEmpresario.com where our readers recommend coexistence tips according to
their experience.

1. Control the volume of your voice. If you work in a cubicle or share an office
with other colleagues, try to control your voice volume when talking on the phone
or face-to-face with other people. If you don't, you will not only affect the
productivity of others but you could also be revealing confidential information.

2. Control cell phone use . Although the use of a cell phone may be essential for
work and personal reasons, you should try to put it on silent or vibrate mode so
that constant calls and text messages do not distract the attention of your
colleagues.

3. Don't get involved in rumors . Spreading rumors about colleagues never leads
to success, even if it is not the one who started it.

4. Control odors . It not only refers to those that may arise from poor personal
hygiene, many people are also bothered by the excessive use of perfume or
essences to perfume the environment.

5. Be careful with lunch. Try to be extremely neat when eating, that is, follow the
basic rules of etiquette for any meal and be careful not to bring perishable foods or
foods that give off strong odors.

6 Avoid arguments and quarrels . As in any work activity, there are days when
meetings, calls and other tasks can make you crazy, so your nerves are on edge and
anger arises over any detail. This creates a tense and unpleasant work environment.
Try to control your temper and be as cordial as possible.

“If you respect others, others will do the same to you.”

7. Share . Relationships between colleagues are based on mutual trust and
therefore you must share all the information at your disposal to achieve a better
workflow in the office.

8 Collaborate. Must be open to teamwork. In every company, each person has

certain tasks to perform, which does not prevent them from lending a hand to
other colleagues. And if the work is for a team, do not try to do as little as possible
to the detriment of the rest of your colleagues.

9. Show interest in others. One way to do this is by introducing new employees to

the rest of the staff (at least those from the same plant or department), or by firing
co-workers when they leave the company, for whatever reason.

10. Criticisms and suggestions . Avoid all types of criticism regarding other
colleagues, your work or any other aspect that may cause discomfort. The only
criticism that is acceptable in an office is constructive.

11. Honesty: Do not take credit for work or projects that you have not been a part
of, or even having been a part of, are not yours in their entirety. Even if they are
your own, they should always be shared with the rest of your colleagues,
highlighting their importance in achieving these achievements.

12. Education and respect . They are the fundamental basis of coexistence not
only in the workplace, but in any other area of life. Be courteous and respect the
way others are, their way of dressing, speaking or giving their opinion. If you
respect others, others will do the same to you.

13. Order . The way you maintain your desk and personal belongings says a lot
about you. It is not pleasant to see that someone keeps their work area in complete
disarray and that every time they have to look for a piece of paper they have to dig
through a pile of things accumulated on the table.

If you consider that you spend many hours a day in the office sharing common
spaces with other people, these basic rules of coexistence will help you have a
better work environment.
