1 .0 INTRODUCTION
The sewage system consists of a series of pipe networks and complementary works
necessary to receive, convey and evacuate wastewater and surface runoff produced by
rain.
A sewage system is considered a basic service, since it is essential to prevent infectious
diseases and protect people's health.
This report aims to verify whether the acceptance criteria for the construction of the
sewage system networks in the municipality of San Alberto- Cesar are met, according to
the technical specifications of the project.
2 .0 GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Carry out the tightness test according to the technical specifications of the construction
of the sewage network system in the municipality of San Alberto – Cesar, for the
acceptance of the installed system.
3 .0 SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
> Verify the status of water flow slopes in the construction of the sewage system.
> Inspect and verify the internal area of the pipes along their entire length, to ensure
that there are no obstructions that prevent the proper flow of wastewater.
> Check the waterproofing or airtightness in the inspection chambers of the entire
sewer system.
4 .0 GLOSSARY
4.1. WATERTIGHTNESS
Property of a sewer network or section of not allowing the flow of water to and from the
exterior, through the walls of the pipes, joints and accessories.
4.2. EXFILTRATION
Flow of water from the sewer network to the surrounding countryside through pipes,
joints and fittings.
Property of a sewer network or section of not allowing the flow of air or other gaseous
substance to and from the outside, through the walls of the pipes and joints.
4.4. INFILTRATION
Flow of water entering the sewer network from the surrounding countryside through
pipes, joints, and fittings.
Pressure exerted by the atmosphere that surrounds the earth (barometric) on all objects
that are in contact with it.

5 .0 REGULATORY REFERENCES
For the following regulatory references, the current version or regulations that modify,
replace or add them apply.
- Fillings.
- Resolution 1096 of 2000: By which the Technical Regulations for the Drinking Water
and Basic Sanitation sector - RAS are adopted. Bogotá: Min Desarrollo, 2000 (RAS-
2000) current version and its subsequent updates, (RAS-2017)
6.0 REQUIREMENTS
Before and during the tightness test, all necessary industrial safety precautions and
requirements must be considered and carried out to provide adequate protection for the
personnel and environment of the test site. The tightness test is carried out in sections
with a maximum length of 120m.
Before starting the test, the test section must be in its final position as well as its
accessories.
If the pipe is uncovered, the necessary pipe anchors, supports and supports must be
made before performing the test. Any damaged anchor or support must be reported for
repair before carrying out the tightness test.
All diameters and types of representative pipes may be subjected to the field leak test in
accordance with the provisions of the project's technical specifications.
The interior of the test section must be free of debris, sediments and residues from the
installation or operation of the network. The interior surface of the pipes must not have
elements that could damage the test equipment (plugs).
Detected leaks will be flagged and reported for evaluation and repair.
After having completed the test and to the satisfaction of the audit, the trench filling is
completed (when applicable) according to the standards of the project's technical
specifications.
The tightness tests approved by the auditor are those stated in the technical
specifications of the project.
To carry out the leak test using the Exfiltration method with water, the following
equipment, instruments and materials must be supplied:
- Water
- Tools, temporary plugs and all the elements for the correct execution of the test.
The filling with water must be adjusted to that stipulated with the considerations of the
audit.
Filling of the section to be tested to stabilize it, allowing the accommodation of it and its
accessories, due to the movements that may occur during the test.
The test must be carried out following the following previous steps:
- Installation of the plugs at the top and bottom of the section (see Figure 1).
- Fill the section with water with the tank truck equipment until the level is reached and
for the specified times stipulated by the audit.
- Check the water level in the upstream inspection chamber every hour to determine
the volume loss of the liquid.
Fill out the form with the readings of the levels observed during a period of 6 hours.
Figure 1. Typical water tightness test scheme
6.2.3 Proof
> Fill the upstream inspection chamber with the tank truck, until the section to be
tested is complete.
> Make measurements and records of the levels in the inspection chamber, as
stipulated by the audit. Reading intervals should not be less than 60 minutes.
> Release the plug downstream, to escape the liquid and check the flow of the
stream in the remaining inspection chambers at the low points.
> The amount of water lost must not exceed that established in section 6.3
Acceptance Criteria.
6.3 CRITERIA OF ACCEPTANCE
6.3.1 Acceptance criteria leak tightness test by the Exfiltration method with
water
The maximum water loss values allowed by Exfiltration for each type
and type of pipes are shown in Table 1.
Hp= Lf – Li
EXFILTRATION (loss) = Ap x Hp
Where;
E= Exfiltration
Ap= Order area in inspection chamber
Hp = Height of water loss
Lf= Final Reading
Li= Initial reading
If the measured water loss is greater than that calculated in the attached format with
respect to Table 1, the water loss is considered excessive and the test section
unacceptable.
6.4 RESULTS REPORT
The leak test report must be submitted for approval by the auditor, for each section of
pipe tested. The report is summarized in the attached format with the data mentioned
below: The data included will be the following:
1. TYPE OF TEST
The test carried out is for tightness to know the Exfiltration in the sewage system,
taking the most representative sections in coordination with those stipulated by the
specifications and the audit.
3. PIPE DIAMETER
The diameters tested in the system are 20” and 30” for each stipulated section.
All the above data will be recorded in the attached format, as evidence of the evaluated
sections.
To approve and receive the tests, the provisions of the project's technical specifications
must be met.
