Essay On Chess
1
INTRODUCTION
Chess is a game between two opponents, each one has 16 moving pieces that are placed on
a board divided into 64 squares. Regarding the origin of chess, its original name was
Chaturanga (or army game) and an Arab legend says it was invented by a Brahmin for a
young rajah, having as basic elements a board of 64 black and white squares and two
armies of 16. figures each. In its current competitive version, it is considered a sport,
although currently it clearly has a social, educational and therapeutic dimension as well.
The importance of chess for the young and adult mind, plus it is one of my favorite games
thanks to the strategy involved when playing it, although sometimes the emotion is too
much, you can appreciate the concentration just by watching a game (it doesn't matter if
whether they are newbies or not) the experience is the same. Chess is a game based on
tactics and strategies. Chess is one of the most popular games in the world and its teaching
has been seen as a way to develop the mind. The game possibilities are so complex that not
even the best players can consider all the contingencies. To Play, you must have the chess
board and the pieces. In addition, the rules of the game must be known. Optionally, a chess
clock can be used, which is essential in competitions (International or National). To learn
chess it is essential to know the board, since this is where all the pieces move. This work
will be presented to the Spanish class. I hope for your respect and your most due attention
to this topic, which name is Chess. This topic will have brief information about my favorite
game. I hope you like it.
THE BOARD: The chess board is a square subdivided into 64 equal squares or squares
(8×8), also square, alternately light and dark in color. Each player faces the opposing chess
player, placing the board in such a way that each player has a white square in their right
corner. The chess board has 8 rows of 8 alternating black and white squares. Each color has
16 pieces: king, queen, bishops, knights, rooks and pawns. The basic elements of the board
are
THE PIECES: The chess pieces, also known as pieces,1 are the moving elements of the
chess game. Each player has sixteen pieces: The word piece refers to each of the chess
figures, including pawns. (1 king, 1 queen or queen, 2 rooks, 2 bishops, 2 knights, 8 pawns)
One player's pieces are white or light in color and are called "white", while the other
player's pieces are black or dark in color and are called "black".
Normally a chess game is won either by checkmate, or because the opponent knows that he
will inexorably receive checkmate and, therefore, abandons. However, winning a game
often does not involve trying to mate the enemy king. Among strong players, small
considerations that are invaluable to an amateur are often enough to be sure of victory.

The game has different stages, beginning, middle of the game (which involves attack and
defense strategies), the end (where it normally closes with checkmate).
As mentioned above, the three phases of a chess game are: opening, middlegame and
endgame. The recognized opening move sequences are known as openings or defenses and
have been given names such as: the Spanish Opening, the Sicilian Defense and the Queen's
Gambit. The opening is a fundamental element in chess. A solid opening will allow us to
consolidate advantageous positions; On the contrary, the weakness in the opening can
hardly be compensated in the subsequent course of the game.
The middlegame is the phase of the chess game that begins after the opening. In it, each
player moves his pieces to mate the opposing king or reach an advantageous end. The
attack consists of threatening two of the opponent's pieces, in the same move, with two of
our pieces: we threaten one with the piece that we have moved and another with a second
piece that has been revealed by the movement. This type of tactical play can be done with
many combinations of pieces. As for defense, they are the openings that Black executes.
While White can propose an opening for the game, Black can take the initiative and
establish an opening strategy that suits them and to which White must adapt.
The endgame refers to the third stage of the game, after the opening and middlegame, in
which few pieces remain on the board and the outcome is imminent. A chess game ends
when one of these situations occurs:
CHECK: A check is an immediate threat to capture the king. A king threatened in this way
is said to be in check. In this case the threat must be eliminated.
CHECKMATE: Checkmate is a chess position in which the king is threatened (in check)
and this situation cannot be changed by any legal move. The player who manages to
checkmate the opponent's king will be the winner of the game.
Winning positions are considered those in which it can be demonstrated that one side wins
with perfect play. Many of these positions are far from mate. A very simple example would
be the following: if we eliminate the queen (or any other piece) of one of the players at the
beginning of the game, it is certain that with perfect play the side that has the extra piece
has a winning position. Taking the game to checkmate, however, can require dozens of
moves. Therefore, we can conclude that the objective of a player, long before giving
checkmate, is to reach a winning position.

Chess is considered a mental sport thanks to its benefits related to the stimulation of
cognitive abilities. It provides multiple benefits related to the development of aspects such
as patience, thinking before acting, respect for others, etc. In addition, it works as a method
of slowing down the cognitive deterioration associated with Alzheimer's or senile dementia,
according to experts. These exercises work on different mental abilities such as
concentration and attention, memory, reasoning, or executive functions. In addition to
offering tools for understanding the methodology used in the board to work on them
correctly, and apply it autonomously in your day-to-day life.
The practice of chess also provides advantages to all ages since this game has
characteristics that improve and increase the development of mental and social skills, since
players face a constant formulation of hypotheses which they must verify or discard; also
promoting socialization, respect for rules and camaraderie.
CONCLUSION
Chess is not only a game that can give you many hours of fun, it can also be an activity that
helps develop your mind and even improve our health in the long term.
Chess can be an effective tool to help in the training of a child, in fact, any activity that
forces us to exercise our mind will always be positive. A child's brain absorbs more
information, and does so in a more natural way, than that of an older person. Therefore,
everything that is learned at an early age will be imprinted in our memory in a more
indelible way. Chess requires great concentration, so our brain is subjected to great activity,
that is the basis of the benefits it provides, it is as if we were forcing our brain to exercise,
so we will be able to keep it in top shape. We can say that chess is the gymnastics of our
mind. Thanks to chess our mind will remain agile and will do so throughout our lives. We
must also not lose sight of the fact that chess is a fun activity, which can be played
anywhere and will provide us with hours of entertainment. There is no reason to think that
everyone who practices it has to dedicate themselves to it professionally, chess is an ancient
game, so broad that one can approach it in different ways: as a simple amateur, as a club
player, as an amateur player or as a professional. Furthermore, chess is the sport that has
best adapted to new technologies; in fact, anyone can play from home, on any of the
multiple game servers, against rivals from any corner of the planet.
