LET'S TAKE CARE OF OUR

PLANET
How to take care of our planet?

1. Save water

Keep the tap closed when you don't need the water and reuse it whenever you
can. If you are going to water your plants, do it very early in the morning or in the
afternoon so that the water does not evaporate so quickly.

2. Use the car less

Use public transportation, bike, walk or share your car with neighbors when you
have to use it.
3. Save electrical energy

At home you can take the following actions:

 Change your gas heater for a solar one.

 Turn off lights you don't use and unplug electrical appliances.
 Change light bulbs for energy-saving bulbs.
 The refrigerator is the appliance that consumes the most energy in your
home. To keep its consumption to a minimum, try to keep it between 3 and 5
degrees, the freezer at between -17 and -15 degrees, open it as little as
possible and keep it away from sources of heat. heat (like the stove).

4. Reduce your waste

Preferably do not use disposable items or aluminum and plastic containers.

Consume only what you need and use up the useful life of things. Remember that
products like plastic bottles can take between 100 and 500 years to completely
degrade.

5. Recycle

Reduce, reuse and recycle is the key to a better environment.

Separate your trash, recycle paper and buy recycled products. If garbage is not
properly managed, it is a source of soil, water and air pollution.

6. Buy wisely
Choose products made locally, as this reduces the consumption of fuel used for
transportation. Also try to compare markets, where organic fruits and vegetables
are sold.

If possible, buy clothes made from organic cotton and not from petroleum-based
materials, which are more polluting. Carry a cloth bag with you so you don't use
plastic bags when shopping.

7. Take advantage of solar energy

The sun is unmatched as a source of natural light, but you can also use its energy
to power the devices in your home or gadgets like your smartphone or tablet.
There are many more electrical devices that can be charged with solar energy than
you think.

8. Use less industrial detergents

There are natural products that can give the same results when it comes to
cleaning. For example:

 Vinegar is a mild disinfectant that cuts grease, cleans glass, deodorizes and
removes calcium deposits, stains and wax buildup.
 Sodium carbonate also cuts grease, removes stains, disinfects and softens
water. (Do not use it on aluminum)
 You can also clean with pure soap that safely biodegrades and is non-toxic.

9. Take care of the Earth's lungs

Take care of the forests by not starting fires, throwing garbage or mistreating the
trees. Remember that they provide us with the oxygen we need to live. Support
sustainable forest management campaigns.

10. Be careful what you throw down the drain and on the streets

Do not throw garbage in the streets, it not only pollutes it also clogs drains and
causes flooding, nor do you throw oil that is not useful through pipes or batteries,
since it generates toxic materials that are harmful to health and contaminate water,
making it impossible to clean. treat.
How is our planet protected today?
Today there is an organization called GREEN PEACE with the organization's
objective to protect and defend the environment , intervening in different parts of
the planet when attacks against Nature are committed. Greenpeace carries out
campaigns to stop climate change , protect biodiversity , healthy eating for the non-
use of GMOs , reduce pollution , end the use of nuclear energy , weapons , protect
forests, natural areas; especially the territory arctic .

There is also a call in each country to prevent the destruction of our planet in the
following ways:
- Do not dirty or pollute rivers, lakes, reservoirs, fields, mountains,... Do not throw
garbage on the ground.
- Use water in moderation, both during bath time, or when washing hands, etc.
- Do not harm trees or animals. It is necessary to respect the common good.
- Recycle and reuse what no longer serves us, instead of throwing away. Children
can transform a simple jar or container of a product into a toy, etc. We must teach
children the importance of recycling.
- Have respect and contact with nature, to know its qualities.
- Plant, sow, irrigate and take care of the land, even in a home garden.
- Visit forests, farms, botanical gardens...
- Watch, whenever possible, videos about life in the seas, mountains, etc. It is
essential that children learn, in a natural and fun way, the value of water, land, and
air.

What are you doing today to protect your planet?

I try not to use plastic bags, I leave plastic and glass containers at recycling points
located here in Machalí and I take care of the trees and plants that are near my
home.

How is our planet being killed?

Pollution is killing the lives of many species. Every day its proportion on our planet
increases, with the human being being the greatest cause of this breakdown,
knowing that the human being, the most intelligent being, would be so incapable of
taking care of his own planet. Now we are in the 21st century, it has made things
worse as they have invented so many chemical materials that are harming our
planet too much.
Pollution, garbage, and the destruction of the ozone layer are factors that destroy
the environment. Main points of pollution, factories that emit a lot of smoke that
contaminates the air we breathe.
Overpopulation is destroying green areas, the excessive use of farmland and
forests does not allow oxygenation of the environment.
Vehicles that also emit carbon dioxide, contaminating the air we breathe.
Illogically burning garbage, toxic waste from factories that are unscrupulously
thrown into the rivers and seas, contaminating them, sometimes even killing the
animals and fish that live in that habitat.
The consequence of all this pollution is causing global warming, the glaciers are
melting and this causes sudden changes in the climate, causing storms that have
never had such intensity and in places that have not occurred for a long time,
tornadoes, tidal waves, earthquakes. , typhoons…. Creating the hole in the ozone
layer, letting in ultraviolet rays that go directly to human skin, causing skin diseases
exactly cancer.
