Difference of Means Exercises

The document presents several exercises related to the difference of sample means. In one of the exercises, the average age of employees at a company's headquarters versus a foreign branch is compared. Another exercise compares the average life of two models of light bulbs. In both cases, we are asked to determine the distribution of the difference between the sample means and calculate the probability that one mean is greater than the other by a certain number of units.

The head of a company's headquarters states that the ages of its

employees follow a normal distribution with a mean of 41 years and a
standard deviation of 5 years. On the other hand, the person in charge of
a branch office of said company in another country has determined that
his employees also have ages that fit a normal distribution with a mean of
39 years and a standard deviation of 3 years.
In order to carry out a comparative study, samples of 40 people are
selected from each company headquarters.
a) Determine the distribution for the difference in the sample means.
b) What is the probability that the employees at the headquarters have an
average age of at least 3 years older than those at the foreign branch?

Quality control tests for a model A bulb have determined that the duration
is distributed as a normal mean of 3300 hours and standard deviation of
180 hours; while for another model B the average duration is 3200 hours
and standard deviation 155 hours.
If random samples of 100 bulbs of each model are taken:
a) What are the parameters of the mean and standard deviation of the
difference in the sample means?
b) Find the probability that the difference in the average durations of the
bulbs of each model is less than 40 hours.

distribution with a mean of 67 grams and a standard deviation of 6 grams.
In another farm with another type of feeding, it has been verified that the
weight of the eggs corresponds to another normal distribution of mean 65
grams and standard deviation 1 gram.

from two different factories, A and B. The batteries from factory A last an
average of 114 hours, with a standard deviation of 23 hours, while those
from factory A last an average of 114 hours, with a standard deviation of
23 hours. factory B have an average duration of 109 hours and a standard
deviation of 17 hours.
A random sample is taken consisting of 63 batteries from factory A and 55
from factory B.

sample?
b) What is the probability that the difference in the means is greater than
